Jen and Ashley groaned as their combined spells once more knocked one of the Voids back. Looking the creature over they could see it twitching, the large holes they had placed in its chest convulsing.
"Seriously that's just gross," Ashley said in disgust as she watched the Voids innards quiver. "You think that's the last if them Jen?"
"I think so," Jen said slowly. "Well that wasnt so bad." A bone chilling cry now echoed through the hotel as the sounds of footsteps now thundered towards them. Ashley turned towards her friend, a look of annoyance on her face. "You just had to say that huh?"
Ashley and Jen once more prepared themselves as a group of five Voids hurtled into the hall. The two college coeds backpedaled casting their spells as the creatures came after them. Ashley conjured a pair of portals, watching as the Void sprinted through exiting the second portal and colliding head on with a stone pillar. The sounds of flesh and bone crunching made the two young women cringe as the Void slumped to the ground, stunned but still very much alive.
"Geez these things can take a beating," Jen said in awe as she launched a blast of her own. The magical energy she released connected with the Voids chest, the swell of burnt meat wafting into the hall causing the two women to gag. Despite the injury the Void only stumbled, quickly steadying itself the creature now ignored the third degree burns as it charged once more.
"Damn it dont these things quit," Jen yelled. The blond woman now summoned forth a portal on the floor, the Void running over it and disappearing from sight. "Where you send it," Ashley asked.
"Outside," Jen stated. "About a hundred feet in the air. Let's see if it survives the impact." The two women now faced three more attackers. Yes they had taken care of two of their numbers but the creatures were unrelenting. How much longer could they hold out?
A wave of energy now swept out from behind them, knocking the three remaining Voids backwards. Turning, the two women smiled as Katie's fiance Kellie now joined them. "You two alright," she asked.
"Fine," Ashley said. "What kept you?"
"Ran into a couple of these things," Kellie said. "In case you haven't noticed they're kind of hard to put down." The group now watched as the three Voids righted themselves, unleashing a guttural cry as they prepared to attack once more.
"Any idea on how to stop them," Jen asked.
"I have an idea," Kellie said. "But I've never used the spell. Hopefully this works."
Ashley and Jennifer watched as Kellie closed her eyes, taking a deep breath as she began to concentrate. Slowly the two young women watched as Kellies clothing began to transform. The clothes on her body shifted, becoming rigid as they began to change color. The clothes now appeared to be plate mail, a glint of light gleaming off its mirrored polish. Kellie opened her eyes, staring at her hand as a large metallic shield began to form.
"What kind of spell is that," Ashley exclaimed.
"Guardian spell," Kellie stated. "It turn my clothing into an impregnable suit of armor. Bonus side, they weigh the same as my clothes so I can still move freely. Now I hope the shield I made can do some damage." Stepping forward Kellie now cocked her fist backward before striking the first attacking Void in the face. A loud clang now rang out through the hotel as Kellie commented with the jaw of the creature.
Ashley and Jennifer winced as the Voids head turned a compete 180°, the sounds of its neck snapped as it crashed against the wall. The other two Voids noticed their comrade fall, unleashing furious strikes on Kellie, knocking her back.
Kellie grinned as she skidded backwards. She had seen how strong these creatures were and considering she barely felt the impact of the blow, she knew her spell was working perfectly. Stepping forward she now blocked a blow with her massive shield, sweeping her arm out as she knocked the two Voids back.
"Ash, Jen, take em out!"
Ashley and Jennifer didnt need a second invitation as they now conjured a pair of portals beneath the two Voids, watching as they fell in and vanished from sight. "Glad that's over with," Kellie sighed as she placed her hands on her knees. The rest period would be brief however the three women watched another group of Voids round the corner. Kellie could see her friends give her a look of annoyance as they now prepared themselves to fight once more.
A flash of brilliant light now illuminated the hallway as the three women watched the group of Voids get pushed backwards once more. Standing in the hallway now was Katie. "Katie what are you doing here," Kellie asked.
"We rescued my brother," she said quickly. "This is all that's left now. We gotta take them out." As the three now stepped forward, Katie held out a hand. "I'll take care of this," she said.
Curiously the trio watched as Katie closed her eyes, appearing to focus all of her magic. As she opened her eyes the group stared in awe as a brilliant white light seemed to emanate from them.
Kellie gasped now as her fiance began to change. Katie's body appeared to slim slightly as her muscles tightened, seeming to ripple and shape under her clothing. As that was happening image watched as a pair of wings now burst through her sweater. Unlike Samantha these wings weren't reptilian in nature. These wings had feathers. If anything Kelli would say they looked like the wings of...
"An Angel," Ashley whispered in awe. "Katie can turn into an Angel?!??!?"
Kellie stared slack jawed at her fiance as she looked between her and her friends. Somehow Katie had taken on the form of an Angel. A serene yet fierce look was etched on Katie's face as her wings beat slowly behind her. A faint golden light seemed to emanate from the woman as she stared down the Voids with eyes of pure light. As the Voids charged Katie simpky raised her hand, pointing it towards the Voids.
The creatures had no time to react as they appeared to explode in a shower if dust and light. Only one of the Voids seemed to escape this fate. Leaping towards Katie the creature howled as its fist rocketed towards Katie.
Katie's face remained emotionless. The creatures blow was intercepted so fast that Kellie and the others couldn't even register what happened. All they could say for certain now was that Katie held the creatures blow at bay with one finger. Balling up her other fist Katie yelled before striking the creature, causing it to explode in a blast of dust and light.
Kellie, Ashley, and Jennifer were speechless as they stared at Katie. The young woman appeared to have transformed herself into a divine being. "Katie," Kellie asked cautiously as her fiance turned.
"The battles over now Kel," she said serenely as a smile spread across her face. "Let's you and me go get married."
