Jeff, now Jess, didn't realize that the Chronivac had a hidden feature that caused transformations to become permanent if the transformed finds love in a different species. Jess was in love with Rex, so the Chronivac changed the world for them:

She tried to hiss for him to look at her, but instead she heard something else; "Hey, big boy, look at me."
She would have clasped her mouth shut if she still had arms or hands.
"Jess?" Rex said back, blushing under his scales at the beautiful snake he was currently inside.
"You can talk?! I can talk?!" Jess suddenly noticed the giant trees and vines. "Why are we in a jungle?! Why do you look so hot?!" She decided to stop asking questions.
"We are speaking the snake language now. It's odd, I know, but that's the way we are. I'm also much smarter than you think. I can read, and I've had a full awareness of everything that's happened." Rex said as he lowered his head to touch Jess's. "When I fucked you again, the machine suddenly changed. I need to show you." Rex pulled out of Jess, dicks still erect, as he carefully slithered over to the broken chronivac when still held the new transformation conditions for Jess. Surprisingly, Jess slithered over easily, which shocked even her.
She looked at the screen and felt herself breaking down as she read "Duration: Permanent".
"Why...why did it do this?!" Rex was surprised that she wasn't mad at him, even though he technically caused this to happen.
"Apparently, love causes the transformation to become permanent. So I have one question." Rex then wrapped his body around Jess, causing her to blush under her scales. She could feel his dicks enter her vagina again.
"Do you love me, Jess?" Rex said as he stared into her eyes.
Jess didn't know what to say. She loved him as a pet, but did she love him as an actual lover? She stared back into his yellow eyes, and saw pure love inside them, pure love for her. Jess rolled the eggs into a little nest in their den as Rex stayed next to her. The two snakes smiled at each other, loving their mate's company. They moved to their own nest, and for the entirety of the night, the lovers made love, sexual hisses echoing throughout the den, as the first egg began to crack.
