Nate decided to let Eric go and confront Circe, figuring he was bound to get turned into something sooner or later. He watched as his brother walked out of the suite, torn clothes in hand and walked down the stone steps just as Circe walked in the front door. Nate followed at a distance, stopping at the top of the stairs. He watched as he brother walked up to Circe.
"Excuse me, Ma'am?" Eric asked, capturing Circe's attention.
"Yes?" she turned to him, pausing in the foyer.
"I know this is going to sound crazy, but I think something weird is going on around here. I think one of the women here is a witch and she's turning people into animals. I found these downstairs. The two guys were wearing them. I think they were turned into pigs." Eric held out the torn clothes.
Nate debated whether or not to speak up. He wasn't sure he wanted to see this. It was one thing to see strangers turn into animals, but his own flesh and blood? Still, he remained frozen in place at the top of the stairs. The need to see how this confrontation played out overruled any other thoughts he may have had, no matter how fleeting.
Circe let out a joyful yet menacing laugh at Eric's declaration. "Oh, my silly little boy, what a sneaky monkey you are. Of course there is. But you foolish child, did it never occur to you that I was the one who transformed them?"
The color drained from Eric's face as he slowly backed away. "No, NO! Please..."
"Now then, what shall we do with you?" Circe pondered to herself as she slowly advanced on the boy. "I know."
Eric stumbled backwards as Circe weaved her spell. He cried out as he felt the changes start, staring in shock as fur began to grow on his forearms. His clothes began to get baggier and looser on him. He quickly realized he was shrinking. Nate watched as the transformation progressed, as his brothers face slowly morphed and changed. It became clear what was happening. She was turning his brother into a monkey. The now simian Eric, kicked off his clothes, revealing the smaller, newly transformed self. Covered in soft brown fur with a long, ropy tail. He cried out in the direction of Circe and ran off out the open door.
Nate walked down the stairs towards Circe in silence as she picked up Eric's discarded clothes. He watched his brother easily climb up a nearby tree and sit on one of the branches, looking as though he were sulking.
Circe was the one who broke the silence. "Did you tell him about what was happening on the island?"
"What? No! I tried to talk him out of it. He figured it out all on his own." Nate sat down on the stone steps. "Great, now what am I going to tell my parents?"
"Nothing. I'm sure they'll get theirs sooner or later anyway." Circe walked away, carrying Eric's clothes with her.
Nate sighed. He knew she was right. She was going to turn everyone into something eventually. Probably even him. He couldn't help but wonder what he'd be turned into. He figured it was only a matter of time until he found out.
