Luke looked over his shoulder as a familiar grey mini van pulled in the driveway. Inside was one of his twin friends' parents, and likely their younger brother, Zack. He sighed as he turned to look at his friends in the doorway, their two nearly identical heads sharing the same body. They wore matching expressions of worry, neither seemingly keen on the idea revealing what had happened to them.
Mark and Max were lucky in a way. Being identical twins, they at least looked like the person they were permanently attached to, and they shared many common interests and habits. Luke's father had been joined to some random co-worker, and his mother, his sister, and himself would likely have a similar fate as hid dad, joined to some random stranger.
Luke turned to look at the parked mini van when he heard one of the doors shut. Zack and his mother were getting out of the car. He whispered to himself, quiet enough that neither of the twins could hear. "This is partly my fault... I may not have known this could happen, but if I had not invited Mark over in the first place..." He felt the guilt eating at him. Luke sighed heavily before speaking up so his friends could hear him, "I will stay to help explain. It is the least I can do."
Luke heard steps behind him, someone had closed the distance between the van and the front door faster than he anticipated. "Luke! What are you doing here?" Zack questioned cheerfully. Luke turned around to see Mark and Max's little brother, Zack, approaching. The youngest brother was only that by about 10 months. Of the four of them, Luke was closest in age to Zack, being 4 months older than him. Being so close in age, the four of them often all hung out together.
Zack quickened his pace and spread his arm out wide, probably attempting to give Luke a hug. Zack often gave friends warm welcomes or goodbyes in such a way. Luke was just a little too slow in stepping back, and Zack brushed his hand against Luke's.
Suddenly, Luke found himself in a permanent bro-hug, of sorts, with Zack. There had been no flash of light. There was no magnet-like force that pulled them closer and closer together as their skin, bone, and muscle knitted together. None of that had occurred. In one moment, Luke and Zack were standing apart in their own bodies, and in the next moment, they were standing together in one body. However, their momentum had not stopped. The two of them fell onto the lawn, their body sprawled out on the grass. A moment later, Sharon, the twins' and Zack's mother, turned the corner.
