Virginia McCoy returned to her home from a long day at school. Rumors were abounding about the upcoming town meeting, but she paid no attention to that at the moment. She put her bags on the ground and as she sat back on her couch, she noticed a flashing light on her phone. Picking it up, she heard one message.
"Hey Virginia," a male voice came out. She instantly knew who it was. "This is Harold. Went to the courthouse to finalize our wedding plans, and everything's go for this Saturday. Let me know when you get home so we can talk further. Thanks." With new found energy, Virginia bounced out of her couch and after taking a quick look in the mirror, she headed out of the door and next door to the Jenkins' place.
Harold was busy fixing dinner when he heard a knock on the front door. He wiped his hands off and headed towards the door, opening to see a flash of red hair hitting him right in the stomach. "I got your message," Virginia said as she wrapped her arms around him. "Is it true?"
"Yup," he said as he returned the embrace, "we're all set for our wedding this Saturday. Everyone needs to be there at 10:30 Saturday morning. They certified the paperwork this morning."
Virginia squealed and said, "I can't wait."
"Down girl," Harold said as he put a hand on her to calm her down, "I know you're excited, but let's not start the honeymoon yet."
"Sorry," Virginia said as she reluctantly let go. "I guess I got a little excited."
Harold chuckled and said, "I get it. I'm excited too, but we need to take things one thing at a time."
Virginia sniffed the air and said, "Something smells good. What's cooking?"
"Shephard's pie," Harold said as he walked to the kitchen. "Want to stay around for dinner?"
"Well, I've got nothing else going on..." Virignia said with a grin, "I suppose I could stick around." She sniffed the air and said, "I do love me a man who can cook."
"Well, when you suddenly find yourself as a single father, you tend to pick up certain skills," Harold said as he checked on his cooking.
"Oh..." Virginia said as she realized what he was saying, "I didn't mean to..."
"No, no," Harold said as he waved his hands, "It's okay. I can't hide that part of my past, but that doesn't mean that I have to let it haunt me." After taking one last look at the cooking, he stood up and called out, "MEL! TREVOR! DINNER'S ALMOST READY!"
"Trevor? Trevor Tyson? He's here?" Virginia asked with an arched eyebrow.
"Yeah," Harold answered as he started to pull out the dinnerware. "They're upstairs in her room studying."
"Studying?" Virginia asked with a bit of a smirk on her lips. "Studying homework? Or each other?"
Harold chuckled and said, "Hey, I trust them. She's a responsible girl and he seems to have a good head on his shoulder."
"Well, if you say so," Virginia said with a wry grin, "I just wonder if they're studying with their clothes on or with their clothes off."
Harold sighed and shook his head, "Well, as long as they come downstairs dressed..."
