The creators of Prince Herald's Unfinished Kingdom (PHUK for short), created a large variety of playable races to choose from, with dragons not being the most exotic. Several of these creatures had body shapes and movements unfamiliar to people. This would significantly limit players if they decided to select a non-bipedal humanoid. Simply put, it would be less enjoyable for players, especially casual ones, to try and learn how to play a creature that had wings to fly or walked on all four legs only. Thinking of this limitation, the game developers imbedded a program that 'taught' players how to move their bodies. It gave them basic insight, an instinct of sorts, on how to move and fight in their atypical form. While the players would know the basics of their chosen race's movement, they would still have to spend hours honing that skill to become truly legendary, like in any video game.
Dan innately knew the basics of walking and flying as a dragon, but to his surprise, he, and by extension his brother, did not know how to move their joint body. To the twins' luck though, the game developers had replaced the 'Summon Partner' ability which typically came with linked player accounts. Dan was not sure how to put it to words, but it seemed like an extension of their telepathic communication. It was like he and Tom were linked, as if they had that fabled twin telepathy that most people fantasize. Dan could not read his brother's mind, but he got a feeling of when and how Tom wanted to move. He still had no sensation or control over his brother's half of their dragon body, but he simply knew that his brother tried shifting his right forepaw to stand. He was attuned to his brother's movements.
However, Dan soon realized that knowing and reacting were two completely different things. He and Tom still stumbled to the side when he failed to mirror his brother's movement with his left foreleg. "Its like we're connected." Dan started. When his brother rolled his eyes at his statement, he continued, "Doofus, I mean connected through our minds."
Tom nodded his head, "Yeah, I sense that too. It must be the 'replacement' feature, since we'll never be out of range of each other." He seemed to be staring at their two front paws. "Let's use it to our advantage then." Thinking of something a moment later, he added, "Practice without talking."
"Without talking..." Dan made a mock gasp, knowing that his brother half-implied that he talked too much. But, he also knew that his brother truly did want to practice their unique form of locomotion while they had the time. They would not exactly have the opportunity to practice during a combat.
Less than an hour later, Dan and Tom were flying high in the sky, making a large circle around their home base. They had more-or-less mastered the basics of how to move together, even fly. Their attainment to each other's movements, significantly helped with coordinating their massive form. Though, Dan knew that the true test would be when they were in combat. He was confident that they would make the best fighting team, but brother, being ever cautious, made it very clear that he was not as confident in their teamwork. "I get that they significantly boosted our starting stats, but I don't see how we are going to be that effective in a fight. All it takes is one miscommunication, one misstep, during a boss fight, and we're toast."
Dan was half-listening to his brother, more interested in the rolling hills beneath them. The dew had long since evaporated, but they maintained their golden hue from the arc of the sunlight. With his keener dragon eyes, Dan spotted a small band of orcs, comprised of only three individuals. The orcs were out in the open, and the hills provided no cover for hidden troops. The small warband seemed outclassed in comparison to he and his brother. "Well then, we should start small. Those three, down there, will be a perfect test run." Dan angled his half of their body so that they would hover in place. His brother mirrored him wordlessly. To Dan, that was more proof that they were ready.
"Only three of them..." Tom spoke. He watched as his brother carefully scanned the area, and seemed to come to the same conclusion that he had. "Just the three of them, and no place for others to be hidden." Tom glanced at him and nodded his head. "Okay. This will be a good start."
"Yes!" Dan cheered. There were finally going to seem some action.
