Abby thought, "If Daddy does know, maybe he won't care what I did as long as he's still a boy." So as Wilma drew closer, Abby replaced "sister" with "brother". Then she snuck the phone back to where it had been left.
Will had that weird feeling again as he sat down. But once again, he didn't notice anything different. He wondered what was going on; he'd have to look into that phone app later. For now...
"Well, Abby," he said with a smile, raising his glass, "here's to finally being free of Dad. And here's to the new life we're going to have without him."
Abby was amazed. He really didn't remember. He was her older brother Will now. And he seemed so much kinder and gentler than her daddy had been.
Will was very smart. The thick glasses he wore confirmed it; he was almost genius level. He was extremely handsome too. With his height, chiseled features, curly black hair, and 190-pound body sculpted by athletics from football to soccer to baseball to weightlifting, Will had never had trouble finding a date. Abby herself would have had a crush on him if he wasn't her brother.
Currently, he wore the suit he had worn to court that morning, minus the jacket, with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows and the top few buttons open, exposing his powerful chest.
Will had a look of concern on his face. "Abby," he said, "is everything all right?"
Abby smiled and raised her glass. Having a big brother could be fun.
"Cheers," they both said as their glasses clinked.
