He thought about what he ought to do first but in honesty, James didn't know. He only gone out to get a few things for Drama Club and now he was in the middle of a city fill with animal people, how long would it take before somebody at the Drama Club realised he was missing and come looking for him?
Going into the Magic Shop wasn't exactly planned, so it might take a while before anyone even came through the door again. So, logically he first course of action was to find a place to stay and potentially get a job, except there wasn't much he was good at except set building, costume sowing and stage lighting. But there might be something in this world that he could do.
Remembering what the officer had told him, James made his way down the street to the little shop and stepped inside. It looked like a news agents store like the ones back home where they sold newspapers and groceries. "Hello." He called out. "Coming." Came a wizened old voice and out came a seventy-two year old African American woman with silver hair and glasses.
"Can I help you, sir?" She asked him with a kind, sweet smile. "Err, Officer Dale said you could help me." James said and She nodded her head. "You're new here." She said. "Yeah." He confessed and told her everything.
"That damn door!" She said after hearing his story. "I can't tell you how many times some poor soul has come in here with the exact same story, except the location is always different." "You mean the door doesn't always open in same place?" Asked James shocked. "That's right, some appear in airports, some on the train, when I first arrived here sixty years ago I came through into a bull's bathroom while he was having a bath." She told him.
"What did you do?" He asked her bewildered. "Married him." She replied with a cheeky grin. "I'm Alison by the way," she told him. "James." He relied. "So you want to find a job and a place to stay, that right?" She asked and he nodded his head. "What are ya good at?" She asked and he told her. "Hmmmm, not a lot to work with, but I'll she what I've got." She told him and slowly knelt down behind the counted and came back up with a folder full a job offers.
"Let's see what we've got." She said.
