Laura wakes up to the sound of a woman talking. Before she can start to process the words she opens her eyes to find herself sitting in a playpen. Laura pulls herself up to a sitting position and sees she's not alone. A little boy about her current age is playing with toys in the corner. Laura's heart starts racing as she realizes the backpack with the dice is nowhere to be seen and listens in to the phone conversation coming from another room.
"...Yes, just laying there in my basement. I have never have seen her before today. When can you send someone? Ok great thanks so much."
There's a click as the call ends and the woman enters the room. She smiles when she sees Laura and comes to pick her up. Laura finds the sensation of being dangled in the air wholly unpleasant.
"Hi welcome to my house sweetie. I don't suppose you can tell me your name?"
"Me Laura" the words come out but in that toddler inflection that most have trouble understanding.
"It's very nice to meet you Laura! Don't worry the nice policemen are going to come find your mommy and daddy."
That's not good. Laura needs to get the dice and get out of here before she's sent to foster care. "When here?"
"Wow you're such a good talker! They'll be here..."
