As Connor and Ryan finished talking, the two of them heard the sound of the front door opening and then closing a few seconds later.
“Mom! Dad! I’m home!” Ava’s voice shouted from downstairs. After a minute or two, the sound of footsteps running up the stairs could be heard, followed by Connor’s bedroom door opening and Ava popping her head in.
“Hey Connor,” she said. “Where’s mom and dad?”
“They went up to Seattle for a bit,” Connor said. “They won’t be back until later tonight.”
“Oh okay.” It was then that Ava noticed Ryan sitting on the bed next to Connor.
“Oh, hi Ryan,” she said, giving him a little wave. “I'm not interrupting anything, am I?”
“No, not at all,” Ryan responded. “Connor and I were just talking, that’s all.” Ryan wasn’t sure if Connor wanted his sister to know what they had been talking about, so he didn’t go into detail.
“We were just talking about Were stuff,” Connor said. “You can come in and talk with us if you want.”
Ava nodded and opened the bedroom door, shutting it behind her when she walked in. She pulled the chair that was in front of Connor’s desk over to the bed so she could sit facing the two boys.
“What kind of stuff were you talking about?” Ava asked curiously. “Have you made a decision about what kind of Were you want to be?! Is it a Werewildcat?!
Connor nodded, which made Ava’s face light up.
“I knew it!” She exclaimed happily. “I knew you were gonna choose to be with Ryan!” Ava jumped up from her chair and hugged her older brother tightly. “You two are going to look so cute together!”
Connor could feel himself blushing furiously at what his sister was saying. Maybe letting Ava join their conversation wasn’t such a good idea…
“You think so?” Ryan asked, turning to Connor before saying “I can really see that.”
Connor’s face was completely red at this point. He honestly wasn’t sure how to react to any of this!
“So when are you gonna transform him?” Ava asked Ryan. “You should definitely do it on a weekend so you don’t have to worry about school the next day...Oh! You should do it this weekend!”
“I’m not sure that’s the best idea…” Connor spoke up. “Ryan and I...we need to take our time...as hard as it may be to wait...We want to go on at least one date first to see if things will work out...and that has to be done on a weekend.”
“Why not this Thursday?” Ava suggested. “My teachers said that Friday is a teacher work day, so all the students have the day off . You two could spend time together after school that day, and then on Friday, Ryan could transform you!”
Ryan thought for a second about what Connor’s sister had suggested. “Well, I don’t have anything against going on our first date Thursday night if what you said about us having Friday off is true,” he said. “But I wouldn’t count on me transforming Connor the very next day. I won’t leave out the possibility though.” He paused, turning to Connor, and then continued: “If things go really well on that first date, then I’ll take you on another date Friday night, and if things work out from there, and if you’re willing, then I’ll transform you that night. How does that sound?”
“Yes!” Connor blurted out instantly, only to quickly compose himself. “I mean...yeah...that works.”
Ryan chuckled at Connor’s sudden outburst. “Then it’s settled,” he said. “Our first date is this Thursday.”
