The meter on the machine was moving extremely slow...only a few percentage points every few minutes, and Jeff grew bored. "How long is this going to take?" He asked, looking at his watch, seconds seeming like an eternity. He supposed changing the world wasn't a quick thing.
The reason the machine was having such a hard time was the sheer magnitude of how that would work. Fortunately, human and dog brains are surprisingly similar, though dogs have a brain that, if they had the same mass as a human, would be half the size. So, they needed a hardware upgrade. At the same time, humans didn't need quite so much in terms of resources.
Finally, bored, he wandered out of his room and into the living room. His mother was out, leaving only his irritating ten year old sister, Jamie, in the house. She was lying on the couch, watching TV.
"Hey, Jamie," he said.
Jamie practically growled at him. "I thought you told me you wanted to be alone," she said.
