After a moment, Laura decides to go right. She’s not sure if it’s the right way, but she doesn’t want to stand still for too long. After all, the longer she stands in one place, the more likely it is someone will swoop in to “rescue her”.
Laura toddles along, sucking on her thumb for comfort as she walks. For some reason, the streets are empty and no one spots her. After walking for a while, she pulls her thumb from her mouth and gapes. She wasn’t at the magic shop, she was at a grocery store. Laura knows this grocery store. It’s nowhere near where the magic shop is.
She sticks her thumb back in her mouth, sucking on it and thinking. She turns in circles, trying to reorient herself, but everything is too big and too far for her right now. Even getting to another neighborhood seems like an impossibly monumental task. Despite her growing despair, Laura manages to hold back her tears until warmth spreads through her diaper. She’s peeing herself!
Then, to make things worse, Laura feels something enter her diaper. Something warm and mushy. She holds out hope it’s just more pee, but then the smell reaches her. She’s just messed her diaper, right after wetting it.
Laura breaks. She gives up hope of getting to the magic shop and getting back to normal. Completely done, she sits on the ground, feeling the poop spread around her diaper, and begins to cry.
