Satisfied by her new clothes, Laura grabs the dice from the safe and puts them in a pocket. Then, she leaves the house to continue to the magic shop. On her way, she passes by the park that she just escaped from dressed in toddler clothes and a diaper. She holds her breath. But no one looks her way. She doesn’t fully relax until she’s completely out of sight, however.
No one stops her on her walk. She’s old enough to not attract too much attention. After a while, Laura’s feet begin to hurt, and she wishes that she could have used Alexis’ bike to travel. But she left that at the park during her frantic escape. And she doesn’t plan on going back there any time soon.
As she walks, in addition to her feet hurting, Laura begins to get hungry. She should have grabbed something at her brother’s house, but she was in such a hurry to leave, she didn’t think about it. By the time she reaches the magic shop, her stomach is rumbling, her feet are aching, and she is desperately thirsty.
But she’s here! Laura stares at the magic shop in relief. Her terrible, terrible couple of days might finally be over. In another stroke of luck, the shop is open, and will be open for a few more hours, according to the sign on the door. Laura is about to head inside when she catches a whiff of something. She turns her head.
Across the street from the magic shop is a park. Laura feels very negatively towards parks right now, but her mouth waters as she identifies the smell as someone grilling burgers. It looks like there’s a big picnic going on. She might be able to sneak in and grab some food before she goes into the magic shop. But should she?
