Bill quickly changed “mother” to “father”. His daughter disappeared from his side. He looked around. Abby was now leaving the courtroom with a man who looked eerily like his ex-wife’s brother. Bill gaped. Since he was now the mother, his ex-wife had become the father, and Abby was leaving with her! Or, him.
Bill watched her ex-wife, or rather, ex-husband, leave the courtroom with Abby. How could Sarah be allowed to leave with Abby, when Bill had won custody? Bill’s lawyer walked over to her.
“Sorry that I couldn’t get you full custody of all the kids,” her lawyer said. Bill crossed her arms. “Look, I’ll see about making some sort of appeal, but in the meantime, you should probably go to work. Skipping your job would reflect poorly on any appeal I might make.” Bill mumbled something in response, then stomped out of the courthouse.
She got into her car and pulled out the phone again, desperate to change things. She generated a new sentence. Huh. Apparently her name was now Wilma.
The sentence read “Wilma, a middle-aged mother of four, is about to go to her job as a cop.”
