James squatted naked in the dirt, the long grass towering above his head, and wondered if his day could get any worse.
At his present stature, he could really have no influence on what was going on above him at all. He could still hear the girls talking, and was aware something was up, but even the few words he was still able to get out between croaks were too quiet for them to hear unless he was close up. And he could offer no physical support either, whoever this was could just tread on him if they wished.
Out in the wild he suddenly noticed just how large everything was. The bugs around him were far closer to his size than Nicola and Noelle were and he could see and hear them in far greater detail than would have been possible outside of watching a nature documentary. As a flying insect of some sort flew past his head James instinctively darted out his tongue, which now seemed several times it's usual length, snared it and gobbled it down. He was glad nobody had seen that, but hated to admit it hadn't tasted too bad. It was another grim sign that his changes were continuing though. He could only hope whatever was occuring above didn't cause too much of a distraction.
"Ah, what do we have here? A couple of fine looking wenches" the more confident of the two young men who approached Noelle and Nicola began as he eyed up the scantily clad young women "It must be our lucky day!"
The obnoxious strangers appeared like fairly regular students to Nicola (they always seemed to have horrendous dress sense) and she was about to make her retort when Noelle touched her arm to stop her.
"Don't mind us gentlemen, we're just enjoying a quiet stroll in the dusk" the aspiring witch smiled politely.
"How dull of you" his companion chimed in, he was the scrawnier, meaner looking of the two and reeked of booze "Come with us. We'll show you how to have fun."
"Maybe another time" Noelle nodded graciously.
"It wasn't a request" the drunken youth replied "we're two of the most prodigious talents at our wizarding college. You really don't want to refuse us"
"Your friend isn't very talkative" the first wizard had moved towards Nicola during his friends exchange with Noelle.
"She isn't from around here" Noelle spoke quickly, clearly concerned with how quickly the situation was escalating "she can't understand you"
"Really?" The young man stroked Nicola's cheek and looked into her eyes. She glared back at him but remarkably said nothing.
"Hello, I'm Cedric" Cedric spoke slowly abd loudly in case that helped "you're very beautiful. Where are you from?"
