Sarah was surprised to find the receptionist from Regensis standing on the doorstep. The woman was holding the hand of a 18 month old boy who like Thomas was wearing only a diaper. The little boy was shyly staring down at the ground looking...embarrassed? What perplexed him even more than the lady showing up with a toddler in tow was the nagging feeling that he recognized the other baby.
"Hi there, sorry to show up unannounced but there was an accident back at the facility involving Dr. Issacs here" she said nodding to the child whose hand she grasped.
"That's Dr. Issacs!?" both Sarah and Thomas couldn't help blurting out at the same time.
"Unfortunately yes, it looks like one of the transfer machines he was operating malfunctioned and regressed him to the age you currently see. Since it was the machine Thomas here used previously and they are the same age now we believe it implemented the same youth treatment on him" she explained.
"I see, but why not just put him in another machine and age him back up?" Sarah questioned.
The receptionist shook her head, "Too expensive. Why do you think our prices are so high in the first place? It costs a lot of money to run those machines and the higher ups find it more feasible financially to just allow Issacs to grow up all over and compensate him. Beside he signed a contract before working with us that had a pretty specific iron clad liability clause" the receptionist answered.
"Anyway I know this is a lot to ask but could you watch him for a day or two while we try to get in contact with his family and find one who is willing to take care of him" she asked nicely.
"Sure why not? Besides I'm sure Thomas here would like having someone his own "age" to play with" Sarah hinted.
"Oh thank you so much, you're a lifesaver" she grateful replied, "I contact you as soon as we find someone and we'll send them over as soon as possible."
Leaning in close she also whispered to Sarah, "By the way he's already wet himself but he hasn't pooped yet so watch out for that." Since he was being held in her arms Thomas heard every word.
"Got it" Sarah nodded, unperturbed at the future changing.
With everything seemingly settled the receptionist said goodbye and returned to her car, got in and drove off. As for Sarah she ushered in the other toddler inside. Closing the door she set Thomas down before kneeling down to address her newest charge.
"So Dr. Issacs, you doing okay there?" she asked comfortingly since the boy had remained silent throughout the whole conversation.
He looked at the both of them before speaking. As it turned out...
