As James reached the top step he found himself suddenly, inexplicably losing his footing. It was just for a moment, but it was enough to send him hurtling towards the bus driver, though he was thankfully able to prevent himself from falling fully by grabbing onto a nearby railing.
"Careful there!" The bus driver smiled amiably "you ok?"
"Yes, I'm fine thanks" James looked back to see what had caused him to fall but could find nothing. He could hear the two teenage girls giggling a little behind him though. He was slightly embarassed of course, but it was nothing major. It wasn't like he would ever see these people again.
"A day pass please" James counted out the correct change and was concentrating hard enough to dismiss the slight tingling sensation he was feeling. He also failed to notice the couple of inches he had lost from his six foot frame.
"You sure you are ok?" Elspeth smiled as she walked with James to their seat. He hadn't noticed that his clothing was just a little looser and longer on him than before. That only made the situation more amusing for her.
They made their way past the obnoxious teenagers and settled into the seats near the nice looking mother and her child.
"Don't worry, it can happen to anyone" the young woman smiled warmly across at James "you're not from around here are you?"
Pleased to be acquainted witb this attractive young passenger James was about to answer, but Elspeth was busy waggling her fingers at him again.
