To her relief, no one stops Laura from entering the magic shop. A customer even holds the door open for her so she can waddle inside. Laura’s heart soars as she sees the store is empty. She toddles over to the front desk, grimacing at how her soiled diaper feels.
“Hello?” she calls. The employee at the desk looks up, then down. He smiles at her.
“Hello, sweetie. How can I help you?” he asks. Laura takes the dice out of her pocket and shows it to him. His eyes widen. “Those dice got sent out? They shouldn’t have!” He quickly takes the dice from Laura and puts them in a glass jar. Laura holds her breath as she watches them roll. Nothing happens. “Don’t worry, they aren’t bonded to you anymore. You won’t get any younger.” The man’s nose wrinkles. “You smell like you need a change.”
“Yes,” Laura mumbles. The man comes around the counter and picks her up.
“I can take care of that for you.”
“But I’m widdle.”
“I can take care of that for you, too. It’ll take me a while to whip up the reversal, however, and I don’t think you want to be in such a messy diaper for so long.”
“No,” Laura says quietly. Her cheeks burning, she lets the man take her to a back room, change her into a clean diaper, and then, upon noticing that her diaper leaked, put her into a new outfit, a short dress.
“You’ll have to wait here while I work on the reversal,” the man says, bringing Laura back to the front of the store and depositing her in a playpen tucked away in a corner. He hands her a bottle of milk. “I know you’re a bit old to be drinking formula, but it’s all I have. Most of the time, when people have as much difficulty with the dice as you, they get here a lot younger.” He looks Laura over. “Are you potty-trained right now?”
“Dunno,” Laura mumbles, blushing fiercely.
“Okay. If you realize you need to go, let me know and I can help you out. Otherwise, just let me know if you need a change.” The man walks away, returning to his spot behind the desk. Laura can just barely see him working on something.
Laura occupies herself with the various toys in the playpen, once she finishes the milk. A few customers come in, buy something, and leave. They all notice Laura, coo over her, and ask who she is. The man tells them that she’s his visiting niece. Eventually, the man walks over to the door and flips the sign over to read “CLOSED”.
“And that’s another day of work,” he says. He walks over to Laura. “You didn’t ask to use the potty all day. Are you wet?”
“Um…” As Laura is trying to tell whether she’s wet or not, she feels her bladder let loose. She nods reluctantly.
“No problem.” The man changes her in the back room again, and brings her to the desk, where he sets her down. He hands her a small vial of liquid. “This is what I was able to make to help you out.”
“It fix me?” Laura asks timidly. The man nods.
“Yes. Well, there is one thing, though…”
