Mike opens his eyes groggily. He’s in Stacy’s car. Stacy sees him wake up in the rearview mirror and smiles at him.
“Hey, sleeping beauty,” she teases. Mike yawns and stretches. “You slept through the rest of the workday, man. And then you slept through me putting you in the car. Oh, and another diaper change.”
“Another?” Mike squeaks.
“Yep,” Jim says from the passenger’s seat. “You and Stacy got to my work to pick me up, and just as I got in, we smelled something rank.” Mike blushes. “Luckily, there’s changing stations in the bathrooms at my work.”
“Lucky,” Mike mumbles. “I don’t think pooping myself twice in one day qualifies as lucky.”
“Yeah, Stacy was just telling me you had a pretty rough day,” Jim says sympathetically. Mike nods. “I actually found out some good news for taking care of you while you’re this small!”
“What?” Mike asks.
“My work has a daycare. And if you’re still reluctant to go to daycare, I talked to my boss. Apparently, since there are so many new mothers that work there, I’m allowed to bring a child with me to stay with me during the day, as long as that child doesn’t distract me or someone else from their job.”
“But that’s what Stacy did today, and she said it was a one-off thing,” Mike says.
“No,” Stacy puts in. “What happened today was my boss looking the other way for one day. What Jim is talking about is his boss allowing people to bring their kids in every day if they need to.”
“…Oh.”
“So, how about you come to work with me tomorrow?” Jim suggests. “It’s cheaper than dropping you off at a daycare or hiring a babysitter. And since you’re back in diapers, we need to save as much money as we can. Diapers aren’t cheap.”
“Yeah.” Mike looks out the window. “Okay. I’ll come with you to work tomorrow.”
“Great!” Jim enthuses. Stacy chuckles.
“Get used to changing dirty diapers,” she says.
“…Less great.”
