A few minutes into the cartoon, Kaitlin hears the voice of the dice.
“Five years you have walked this Earth. Now this number is but two. Each roll of the die shall return more of what has been lost.” Kaitlin feels herself shrink down to the same size as Laura. At that moment, Anna returns from the kitchen.
“All right, breakfast is- what on Earth?” Anna asks, staring at Kaitlin.
“Dithe wolled,” Kaitlin says. Anna rubs her face.
“Apparently. Well, time to put you in something different.” Anna picks Kaitlin up and puts her into a diaper of the same size Laura is wearing.
“Hungwy,” Kaitlin says once she is changed.
“Yep.” Anna picks Laura up again and brings her and Kaitlin to the kitchen. Kaitlin is placed in a highchair that already has a bottle of milk and small bowl of dry cereal on the tray. She begins to eat, watching Anna spoonfeed Laura baby food in her lap.
“When go?” Laura asks between bites.
“When you two finish breakfast. Then we’ll go to the mall to meet up with my daughter and find those dice.”
“Your daughter come?”
“She works at the store you lost the dice in. Of course she’ll be coming.” Laura finishes the jar of baby food. A bottle of milk is popped into her mouth and she is whisked away to the nursery by Anna to be dressed. While Anna and Laura are gone, Kaitlin feels pressure in her bowels. She won’t be able to hold it in long enough to use the toilet, so she lets loose, deciding to mess herself for the first time without anyone around.
“Smells like someone needs a change,” Anna says, returning to the kitchen and dropping Laura off in the playpen. Kaitlin nods. “Are you done eating?”
“Yeth.”
“All right, let’s get you changed and dressed.” Anna takes Kaitlin to the nursery, where Kaitlin is subjected to her first dirty diaper change in decades. The sensation is uncomfortable enough to make her squirm and fuss slightly. Anna promptly pops a pacifier into her mouth, quieting her. Once her fresh diaper is on, Anna pulls a dress over Kaitlin’s shoulders and brings her back to the living room, where Laura is playing with toys in the playpen.
“We go?” Kaitlin asks around her pacifier.
“In a moment.” Anna places Kaitlin in the playpen next to Laura, then pulls out her phone. The camera light flashes. “Sorry, I had to take a picture. The two of you are so adorable!”
The drive to the mall goes by quicker than Kaitlin would have thought, considering that she’s in a car seat, wearing a diaper, and sucking on a pacifier. But they arrive at their destination shortly, and both Laura and Kaitlin are put into a double stroller meant for twins.
From their vantage point in the stroller, the mall is huge and frightening. Laura and Kaitlin suck on their pacifiers for much needed comfort, particularly when strangers approach to coo over them. Anna tells the strangers that they are twins she is currently fostering, eliciting a sympathetic and warm response each time. As Laura feels herself flood her diaper, they arrive at the store the dice were lost in.
“Mom!” a woman calls, rushing over to Anna. She looks down at Kaitlin and Laura. “These are the girls you told me about?”
“Yes, they are,” Anna says. Anna’s daughter crouches down and smiles at Kaitlin and Laura. Kaitlin and Laura exchange a glance, wondering what exactly this woman was told.
