It's her sister-in-law Jessica. Laura fights the urge to try to explain the truth as the chaperone recounts the number of times she had tried to run off. Jessica looks down and prepares to scold her for her misbehavior, when a saviour arrives. Her former niece now big sister, Alexis, runs over from the kindergarten group.
"Mommy don't be mad at her. She was just upset because she wanted to hang out with me, but they didn't let her. And she's very sorry for giving Mr. Richards a hard time. Isn't that right Laura?"
Laura takes the help, "Yes, I am very sorry."
Jessica sighs, "Alright no one's in trouble. But Laura, you need to make friends in your class not try to spend time with Alex."
"Yes mommy."
Laura is then led over to Jessica's car and strapped in a booster seat next to Alexis. As they pull away Laura wonders whether this is just her new normal or if there's any hope of getting back her old life.
