Michelle thought hard. She brayed again. It was so easy now. So simple. She loved braying. Did she really want to leave it? Michelle was conflicted. On one hand there was her mother and her siblings. On the other...there was all this, a simple life, free of worry.
Suddenly she heard a sound in her head. “Hee-haw Hee-haw Hee-haw Doesn't it feel good? You've let me loose. Now enjoy it! Hee-haw Hee-haw Hee-haw!”. It was the jennet inside her.
Michelle could leave it all behind. The female donkey inside her begged her to bray. To be what she really was. Michelle listened to the voice. "HEE-HAW!" With her acceptance, her resistance finally fell away.
Following the sound of braying, the girl ran off, slightly longer ears listening for the sound of donkeys.
Michelle ran towards the sound of braying. Since listening to the donkey inside of her, she had felt her thoughts simplify. Hearing the sound of the donkey boys, she rushed towards them.
Michelle stopped. she could hear meaning behind the brays now. “Feel your ears” the voice inside Michelle told her. Michelle felt a pleasant tugging on her ears. She put her hands to her ears and felt them push through her fingers, growing fuzzy as they did.
Michelle ran to the bathroom. Looking in the mirror she was greeted with the sight of two foot long, brown furry ears. Suddenly the mirror flashed and the image changed. A brown donkey was looking back at her
“Feels better doesn't it? This is what you are!” The inside donkey said.
Suddenly Michelle was looking at her donkey-eared self again. Braying with joy, she ran out of the bathroom, listening for the sound of donkeys again.
Ears wagging, she caught a “Hee-Haw”. Giving a bray of her own she rushed towards it. As she rushed towards the sound of braying she heard sobbing.
There was a boy in an alley crying. Michelle saw a tail sticking out of his shorts and donkey ears on his head. Giving a bray to get her attention the boy looked up.
"Stay away from me. Maybe you want to be an animal, but I don't." the boy sobbed.
Hiccupping a couple of times, the last broke into a bray, making him cry more.
"Come on. Didn't that feel good?" Michelle gave a bray. It was so natural to her now.
"Stop!" The kid cried. Michelle moved closer and brayed in his ear. The kid couldn't handle it. He brayed so hard his mouth extended into a muzzle.
"There." Said Michelle as she ran off. As Michelle ran away from the still slightly reluctant boy she stopped. Rubbing her soft, furry ears, she pulled them down and looked at them.
The braying in her mind returned. “Hee-hawwwww! Nice aren't they? Don't you want more?”
The voice was right. Michelle loved these ears. She released them and they flopped back up above her head. She did want more.
