"Well this proves it works," Flaire grinned, her fangs a wall of ivory.
"We knew it was gonna work," Pyro said snorting flames. Their little slave cheering at this minor display of power.
"Yes dear, but seeing it in action is another story! Aren't they adorable in their blind obedience?"
"The Masters praise us!" Said the kobold who had been the farmer's daughter, blushing.
Pyro and his mate Flaire knew as soon as other dragons heard about their discovery, the dragons would be all over the two of them demanding their secret, and perfectly willing to wring it out of them if it came down to it. Flaire, like any dragoness, wanted her eggs to hatch into a world where they couldn't be properly provided for.
"It's almost same we can't just go wild and spread our new breath across the entire country," Pyro sighed. "It's such a thrill!"
"Oh I agree!" Flaire hissed in glee. "But... remember the plan!"
"Oh I haven't forgotten! I'm just lamenting! But we'll have our fun soon enough. But once dragons realize our proof of concept, we'll have the world as ours in no time... Assuming we play smart of course... And even when we win... I want to make sure we're on top and not discarded once we've done our part!"
"Let's get back to campus then... and begin collecting the kobolds we know will be the choice willing-slaves once the dust settles!" Flaire declared spreading her wings, the kobold 'ooooh'ing and 'aaahhhh'ing. "Kobolds, you are clever. Modify the equipment of the human who lived here to suit you size, modify its efficiency and design to continue to harvest."
There was no need to tear down the entire system and start from scratch after all! The dragons would make good use of everything humanity had built, and would soon be in the hands of the dragons and their kobold minions.
"We heard and obey!" The Kobolds said together and scampered about at once to get started.
The two dragons took off, using the magic they'd spent decades learning from humans to hide their presence from unwanted eyes, and returning to the magical research center they'd worked at under their human disguises. Shrinking in size, and again donning their disguises, the couple entered with their security amulets confirming their identities. The pair called for a meeting for their contemporaries... Into the auditorium the pair had helped commission be built in the first place... big enough to hold and hide a dragon.
The dragons knew each of these mages well... knew their strengths and weaknesses, and none of these mages had any reason to suspect a trap. They'd stepped in, their robes would dissolve into nothing, their bodies would shrink and be covered in scales, hands feet and head becomes reptilian as a tail grew from their backsides. Unlike the farmers however, magical tattoos formed on their naked forms. Their wizard wands shrinking down to fit their new sizes.
They would hurry to Flaire's feet, and fall on their claws and talons, dipping their heads. "Oh great dragon! How may this Kobold's magic be of service to you?!"
And it wasn't long until the entire staff were now Kobolds whose every waking though was how to best serve their draconic masters.
"Attention my loyal little kobolds," Flaire said. "We beginning a new project now. The gift we've given you must be refined, enhanced, improved, replicated.
"It will be done as you will it!" The mage kobold cheered raising their wands.
Meanwhile, Pyro had called for a security meeting by the few flesh and blood guards the research station employed, the majority of them having been replaced by golems a decade ago. And soon enough, their armor shrank down, turning to runes engraved on their bodies that deflected physical harm, their modern weapons still light and effective enough to be handled. The golems would continue to do the majority of the security anyway. So little had changed.
A 'quarantine' sign was placed around the farm for safe keeping. It wouldn't keep the secret hidden for long, but it wouldn't need to be in place for long. There wouldn't be human changed one by one in long lines... humans would be changed in mass... Humans would be extinct and only kobolds would remain, and the dragons would rule it all!
