Juliet stared at Clarisa in disbelief; “Don’t you want someone to look at them? I mean they must have a doctor here.”
“Nope. They actually feel good. Like I said, what next?” Clarisa said with a goofy grin.
Juliet looked around; “What about if we take a break? There seems to be some sort of restaurant. Why don’t we get something to drink.”
“Good idea.” Clarisa and Juliet started towards the grimy looking restaurant.
“The Donkey’s Head Tap?” Clarisa read as kids streamed in. “Tap? Is this what I think it is?”
“It appears to be!” Juliet replied when the two teens entered the bar, and found an empty table in one of the corners.
“What do you want to drink?” Juliet asked. But Clarisa got up. “It says serve yourself.” She went over to a keg and poured herself a mug. She took a sip. “Oh my! Juliet it’s beer!”
“Beer? Don’t they have anything else?”
“I don’t want anything else! Since when are we allowed to have this at home.” She downed her mug and felt her ears tingle.
“Hey stop it!” Juliet cried taking the mug out of Clarisa’s hands. She put it away only to see it taken by another girl before looking around.
“Here take this!” Juliet said as she tossed Clarisa a dusty can of coke. Clarisa sated at the soda. “Boring!” She said with a laugh and got up to get another mug. This time she came back with two and pushed one across the table towards Juliet.
Clarisa began drinking her second mug and the drink went straight to her ears again in a pleasant buzz. Juliet looked at the mug with a frown and tossed it away.
She liked Clarisa very much but sometimes she felt as if her friend really wanted to press her boundaries. She opened the can and sipped the soft drink.
Continuing to drink her beer, Clarisa felt the buzz increase. She felt a gentle tug on her ears. “Ha! This stuff is going straight to my head. It’s awesome. Why won’t you try some?”
Juliet ignored her and finished her drink: “Come on let’s do something else.” She rose from the bar stool and dragged Clarisa out before she could drink another beer.
“Stop being such a stick in the mud, papa’s girl! There are no parents here to see this! Try some!” Clarisa said, revealing the mug she had hidden.
“No and stop it, why did you even bring it with you?” Juliet asked irritated and wanted to snatch the mug away from Clarisa, but in doing so she stumbled and fell towards her friend splashing the content on the pavement.
In that short time, Clarisa rushed inside to get another, pushing kids out of the way rudely. “It’s okay, I got you. Try some!” Clarisa said, holding up a new mug.
Juliet stared at her in disbelief; “Ok give me the mug!” She said taking a sip before passing it back to Clarisa. “So happy now?” Juliet asked feeling a slight tingle in her ears.
Watching her friend finally try the beer stimulated her own buzz, she felt another gentle tug on her ears.
“The question is, are you happy?” Clarisa asked pointedly. “How was it?”
“Like the first time I tried some! Doesn't taste good and will probably cause some kind of problems!” Juliet replied.
“It’s not causing me problems. I can actually hear better.” Clarisa said with a shrug as she downed the rest of the mug.
“Let’s do something else I think you had enough!” Juliet suggested; “How about we take another ride?” Clarisa felt her ears swivel a bit to hear Juliet better.
“Yeah, we’ll get more later. What did you have in mind?” After taking a stroll around the park the girls settled for a roller coaster. Unknown to Juliet, Clarisa’s ears had grown again and had started to twitch when she heard a strange noise.
Clarisa and Juliet took the front car. “You should have some more of that beer later. I can hear so much better now.”
Juliet looked at Clarisa’s ears and she almost lost her voice. Her ears had doubled in size and were covered by velvet brown hair.
“Clarisa, your....!” Juliet exclaimed but the roller coaster just had started to move. Clarisa put her hands up and screamed as she enjoyed the ride along with the other kids.
Clarisa was glad she got the front car. They got the most out of the ride there. Juliet first tried to get Clarisa’s attention but the noise made it impossible soon, she like all the other kids and Clarisa, was crying in joy when the coaster turned or reached a sharp curve.
They came to the last curve. As the coaster started down, Clarisa put her hands up and screamed; “YEEEEEEEE HAWWWWWW!!!!!!!!” She cried as they finally started to come to a stop. She felt like all the blood had gone to her head and she could feel two weights on either side.
