As time went by, while their were a few hiccup here and there, Rachel grew more and more accustomed to being a 24/7 mermaid after signing away her former human life on her final day. And as it happened her her training as a teacher of pre-teenage kids was a blessing to both her and the resort as they had been looking for someone more long lasting for the role for their young merfolk both born and becoming full time like she had.
Rachel had also become good friends with Nixie's parents Matthew and Ashley during this time though her friendship with Nixie herself was briefly strained for a bit when Rachel refuted changing her name like she had (though in Nixie's defence only about 1 in every 2000 permanent guests actually chose to do so). still as Rachel's due date grew closer and closer she did start feeling worried when the feeling of the baby's tail moving inside her started happening in two sides in sync though the doctor told her not to worry after each check-up after this started.
Then one day during her day off while having a chat with Ashley outside Rachel's new home away from the guest station, Rachel doubled over as a pushing feeling started in her adamant as a wired bubble started to come out of her canal way. "OK... don't panic Rachel. MATTHEW CALL FOR HELP, RACHEL'S IN LABOUR" Ashley responded as she quickly got to Rachel's aid. "but... i'm a little under a month early" Rachel protested. "that doesn't matter. just start taking deep, long breaths. trust me I've been through this myself remember" Ashley assured as Rachel followed her instructions.
Half an hour later the bubble coming out of Rachel had gotten big enough to act like a space helmet as Rachel found herself lying on her back on the seabed as both merfolk and scuba medics arrived to help her. "Alright, bubble's crowning good. vitals high but stable" the lead medic announced before instructing Rachel "Miss Sinclair in about a hour's time on my signal I'll need you to start pushing". "excuse me but it was only a few minutes after this point I was told to do that" Ashley protested. "yours was a single birth to your son Aquin. we're dealing with twins here mrs Dovers" the lead medic countered.
Twins? Did Rachel hear that right "I'm carrying twins?". "of course miss Sinclair, the feelings you spoke of and I confirmed so testing for a heartbeat were all signs" the lead medic assured. "*ack* and here I was prepping for a single surprise birth" Rachel painfully muttered in shock.
soon the bubble had grown so big a preteen in a cradled position could fit inside. at which Rachel was told to start pushing while continuing her breathing. following a painful drawn out series of pushes the first baby, a merboy, entered the bubble and the world from Rachel's womb, followed by his mermaid sister about a few minutes after. both Rachel noticed already showing signs of being a good even blend of their parents as they started crying while one of the support staff members popped the bubble while two others gently caught one each before handing them to their mother.
"Congratulations Rachel Sinclair. A handsome son and a beautiful daughter" the lead medic proudly announced. "they are aren't they" Rachel happily agreed. "any ideas on their names?" Ashley then asked as one of the scuba staff members got ready to help take note. "Francis for my son... Francis Liam Sinclair" Rachel answered. "And your daughter?" the note taker then asked. "Marnia... Marina Emily Sinclair" Rachel announced as she allowed her babies to get nourishment from her breasts.
Later inside her home "looks like I might need to alter some of the childcare equipment I arranged for" Rachel remarked as her babies were napping to the lead medic. "as I understand you arranged for them to arrive next week... with one child in mind at this point" the lead medic agreed "good thing I can help with this". "I promise it won't be a habit" Rachel also assured while proudly looking at her babies:
