Melissa Jenkins woke up with the room in darkness. She took a quick look out the window to see that the sun has yet to rise. Taking a glance at her clock, she then groaned as she turned over in her bed. It was far too early for her to get up out of bed. Yet, she felt well-rested, and after a few minutes of trying to get back to sleep, she picked herself up out of bed and made her way to her dresser. She took a look at herself in the mirror. Although it had been a couple of weeks since she joined were society as a werecow, she still couldn't believe the changes that her body went through. Brushing her red hair with her brush, it gave her a closer look at the changes her body went through. Her shoulders were much broader than before, and as she brushed her hair, she could see her muscles in her arms moving. They were much bigger than they were before, and she wondered how much she could lift now.
After she finished brushing her hair, she went to the bathroom to brush her teeth and take her daily birth control pill. She then returned to her bedroom to finish getting dressed for the day. She gathered her books and bound down the stairs. "Dad!" she called out as she went out the door, "I'm off to school!"
"Okay, honey," Harold called back, "Stay safe."
"I will!" She called out as she went out the door. A cold November breeze made her inhale sharply as she walked out towards the street. Her mind went to her friend Rachel. Melissa was worried that Rachel might do something rash and end up pregnant or worse, her father might do something stupid like Rachel had been fearing. She took another deep breath as she approached the school and smiled when she saw one of her friends, Alice Weiss.
When Alice saw Melissa, she waved her hand at her friend which Melissa copied. "Mel!" Alice called out, "There you are!"
Melissa looked at Alice and asked, "Is everything okay?"
"Well, I'm just worried about Rachel," Alice responded. "I just hope her father didn't...you know...try to run."
Melissa took a breath and said, "That's a good question. If we see her, we know that she's okay. Last I saw her, she went with Megumi to her home and learn about werefoxes."
"Think she'll still be...normal?" Alice asked, "Maybe she'll be a werevixen now."
Melissa shook her head as she responded, "I'm pretty sure she wouldn't change this early. Although with her worries about her dad, maybe she did."
Alice nodded her head as the two of them walked through the school. Both of them heard rumors about something happening that Friday. "Huh, school rumors are a bit wild today," Alice remarked.
"You don't think they've heard about the academic team meet this Friday?" Melissa asked. "I mean, Virginia did mention that Moon Lake is hosting Spokane..."
Alice chuckled as she shook her head, "Somehow, I don't think most of the school really cares about the academic team. No, it's something big." The two of them ran into Megumi Tachibana as they talked. Alice waved to Megumi as she said, "Hey, Megumi. Know anything about what's going on Friday?"
"You mean besides the meet?" Megumi responded, "Well, I heard from Grandma that there's some sort of town hall meeting. It isn't just this school that's buzzing about it, but it's the town. There's something big."
"Huh..." was all Mel could say before the first warning bell rang. She sighed before saying, "Well, guess this'll have to wait till lunch."
"Yeah," Megumi said nodding, "I can tell you more about it later."
