Cody sighed as he leaned back in the rickety old computer desk chair. He had just finished the day with some more, minor unpacking. Truthfully he didn't do much on his day off. The last two days moving had really wiped the man out, his body stiff and achy as he lumbered throughout the house. He had just moved out of his roommates apartment, and into one of his own. The only other dweller in the living space was his dog, Luca, a faithful husky companion going on eleven years now.
Tomorrow would be another uneventful day of dry boring work for the thirty year old man. Cody just shook his head as thought to himself 'At the rate I'm going I'll have to work in the customer service industry forever.'
Working at a bank did have its perks, room for improvement and later down the line maybe a promotion to a higher paying job. But Cody never wanted that. He wanted to be an entertainer, which he tried and failed on Youtube several times. There were several things in his life he wished he could just somehow make better...
He looked down to his body with a glare. Overweight, lazy, and not at all sexy, how the hell was a gay man suppose to find himself any kind of lover with these looks. Granted he did have a youthful face for thirty, little to no wrinkles, just a few bags under his eyes over the endless nights of worrying about his own life.
So many worries, so many things he wanted to change...
Suddenly there came a knock at the door, Luca barked several times, eager to show his master that 'SOMEONE WAS HERE'.
"Hush, bubba." Cody scolded as he made his way over. "Who the hell would be knocking at 10 PM at night?!"
He opened the door to see no one present. The only thing that was there was a small envelope with his name written on the front. Curiosity taking him, Cody picked up the letter, closed the door and opened it while walking back to his computer desk.
'Dear Cody,
You may not know me, but I know you. I am your father, and as unbelievable this all may sound I have written this letter to you to let you know what your life is about to become. First I want to say, I'm sorry son. I know I haven't been apart of your life... sad fact is I couldn't be.
What I am, and what I can do is limited when it comes to my one and only child. Cody, I am a being that has existed in this universe since its creation. I hold with me all the powers of what a God might have. By merely wishing it, I could have ANYTHING come to be. However, even in my ultimate power I could only have one child. And when that child has been born into this world, I would have to leave to the farthest reaches of space so that I may create a new one, separated from the universe you reside in.
Our kind can only have one of us exist at one time in one given universe, it is just how it is. And now, with your thirtieth year behind you, you will now come into your own power. What ever you wish for, what ever you desire, all you have to do is wish for it and you will have it. And don't worry about anyone stealing that power or what have you, our kind cannot have this gift taken from them...
And... on that note I must let you know this is a curse as well. For with this power comes immortality. We cannot die. Even should our bodies be scattered to the winds, we will always exist, and a new body can always be forged anew with a wish.
Lastly... I will give you a warning. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. I found that out the hard way after billions of years. I know you might go through the same... but I just want to let you know this now so that my words may hopefully bring you back to some kind of humility. Good luck my Son... no matter what you may do just know that I love you.
Signed,
Your Father'
Cody read, and reread over the letter. At first he had to laugh at the absurdity of it all, throwing the letter on the kitchen counter before walking across the way to his computer desk. Then he thought a moment to himself... minutes ticked by as he played with the idea of it being possible. He grinned to himself, and said aloud, "Alright well if it is true... then I wish..."
