Jeff decided to play it safe with a minor transformation, just to be sure it worked.
First he made sure to tick the box that ensured that he would be aware of the change, followed by the one that would make the rest of the world treat it as normal.
Double-checking to make sure the settings were in order, he looked down at his keyboard and began eagerly typing.
"I will become slightly taller, with a more athletic build. My face will become slightly more handsome while retaining most of my natural appearance. Finally, my mind will become slightly more intelligent."
As he reached the end of the sentence he enthusiastically slammed the enter key.
Perhaps next time he would be brave enough to stop using the word "slightly" in every sentence, but for now he was excited to see if it would work at all.
The Chronivac displayed a spinning wheel icon and a text box that read "Parsing Text", giving Jeff a moment to go over what he'd written.
Except it wasn't what he'd written.
The input text instead read as follows: "I wll beme sligly tlr, wh a mo athtic bild. y face wl bcom slhtly me hasoe wle reing mst of m nurl aparne. Fialy, m mind wll beoe slihy mre intiget."
Jeff swore under his breath. His stupid wireless keyboard must've been acting up again.
He tried to click cancel, but nothing happened. The spinning wheel icon seemed to be having trouble too, stuttering and stopping in place for several seconds at a time. Occasionally a tiny red bar labelled "ERROR" would flash in the middle of the screen before vanishing in an instant.
Soon his cursor stopped responding entirely and his computer briefly locked up before a pop-up appeared.
"Chronivac Version 4.0 has finished parsing your text. Transformation will now begin. Do not close the software or turn off your PC."
The spinning wheel reappeared, still struggling as much as it had before. Once again, Jeff's computer began to freeze and malfunction and he found himself unable to cancel the transformation.
Jeff could do nothing but watch helplessly and wonder what would happen to him next.
