“You’re in luck,” Kimberly says excitedly. “I just came back from a babysitting gig, so I’ve got all the supplies I need for you.”
“Great…” Olivia mumbles. Kimberly rifles through a large diaper bag sitting by the bench. She freezes.
“Ooh, this would be adorable!”
“What?” Olivia asks, dreading the answer. Kimberly turns around to show off a swim diaper and toddler swimsuit. Olivia’s mouth drops open. “I’m not going swimming!”
“Oh, yes you are!” Kimberly says. “I was supposed to take little Carly swimming when I babysat her earlier, so I brought everything I needed for it. It didn’t work out, so I want to use the things I grabbed.”
“But-” Olivia is cut off by Kimberly popping a pacifier into her mouth, which she sucks on instinctively. Kimberly lays her on the bench and puts her in the swim diaper and swimsuit.
“There! And I’ve already got my swimsuit on under my clothes.” Kimberly picks Olivia up. “Time to go swimming!”
Olivia sucks on her pacifier for much-needed comfort as Kimberly carries her across the street to the neighborhood pool. Kimberly shows her pass to the front desk worker and walks in.
“You’re little enough I don’t need to pay for you,” Kimberly says, poking Olivia’s nose. Once inside, Kimberly locates a free chair and table and walks over there. She sets Olivia on the chair while she removes her outer layer of clothing.
“What if I get sunburned?” Olivia asks, as one last-ditch attempt to avoid swimming as a toddler.
“I’ve got sunscreen,” Kimberly says in a singsong voice. She takes out a bottle of sunscreen and lathers it all over Olivia, before applying it to herself as well. “All done! Time to swim!” Kimberly takes Olivia’s hand and leads her over to a lifeguard, who buckles a life vest on Olivia, then they go to the wade pool. Olivia toddles due to the thick swim diaper she is wearing. She blushes, fully aware that anyone who looks at her will see the diaper bulge under her swimsuit and know she can’t be trusted to not have an accident.
In the wade pool, Kimberly begins to play with Olivia in much the same way that Olivia played with Kimberly years ago. To her surprise, Olivia enjoys herself. She giggles happily each time she is splashed and jumps around like all the other toddlers.
Olivia doesn’t snap out of this new toddler mindset until an hour later, when…
