Kaitlin and Laura sit in the playroom, waiting for the perfect opportunity to escape. After about half an hour, the only employee watching them leaves to take a phone call. Kaitlin grabs Laura’s hand and pulls her to her feet. After checking that the coast is clear, and no one will see them leave the daycare, Kaitlin and Laura rush out into the mall.
Still holding hands, Kaitlin feels Laura come to a sudden stop. She looks over shoulder.
“Laura, we can’t thop running! We’ll get caught again!” Kaitlin scolds. Before her horrified eyes, Laura squats where she’s standing. “Laura, are you pooping?” Laura begins to grunt, her face turning red from effort. “Thop! We need to go, juth hold it!”
“No hold it,” Laura says in between grunts. Kaitlin looks over at the daycare entrance nervously. She can’t just abandon Laura, but the longer they stand there, the more likely it is they get spotted. After what feels like hours to Kaitlin, Laura grunts one final time and sighs. She straightens, her diaper sagging visibly under her.
“Thinky,” Kaitlin mutters as the stench of Laura’s mess reaches her. “Okay, leth go, now!” Kaitlin grabs Laura’s hand again. They continue to run.
