"Just shut up and take this seriously already!" James shouted, cutting Alan off. "Just tell me what you've tried to eat here besides those mushrooms, what if anything, didn't get you high, and if you really want to do something actually useful, find the rest of these clothes I lost and fold them up by the mouth to this cave, so I don't have to deal with these damn tits I'm stuck with because of you flapping in the breeze. I am DONE dealing with you. I am going to go off on my own, maybe start a fire, maybe study some things, for basic scientific curiosity, and head back on my own. You can just run back off to trip out on your little island alone."
Alan made a vague mumbled effort to apologize and give James some useful information, and the two parted ways. Alone, James headed off, following the river again, keeping his eyes peeled for any edible looking berries, loose sticks, and rocks that weren't glowing, hoping to set up a proper campfire, maybe try and trap some of whatever this place had instead of rabbits.
Exhausted, hungry, and worrying about navigating back through the cave if the batteries in his flashlight lost their charge, he gave up, found a big enough clearing to stretch out, and tried to get a fire going without any success. and nibbling at a few of what looked a bit like bright yellow strawberries he'd found that tasted a bit like lemons and sawdust. Not wanting to go overboard without being sure they weren't poisonous, he laid down for a bit, hiking his shorts up some to try and put enough pressure on his stomach to avoid the hunger, and started looking for patterns in the stars.
After maybe an hour or two of this...
