David sat on the bleachers, waiting for his brother Rob to turn up, and watched the football practice going on down on the fields. His eyes followed the movements of the players, tracking them with the skill of one who’d spent years following the game. He was so absorbed in watching the team he was hoping to join one day that he failed to notice the footsteps on the metal before a hand landed on his shoulder. Twisting around, he saw behind him a blond woman dressed in a very short skirt and midriff-baring top and smiling at him. “Hi” she said. “h-h… Hi” he stuttered. She sat down next to him as his mind boggled. “So”, she said, "What's YOUR name, babe?”

Rob walked towards the football field to meet his little brother. He was a little late, but he didn’t think that Dave’d mind; kid always welcomed an opportunity to watch the team. Not something Rob agreed with; having to be in the same year as many of them, he personally thought they were a bunch of bastards. They’d victimised him because of both his weight and his nerdishness; things his bro didn’t have in common with him. He climbed up the steps and looked down the rows of seats for his brother, and spotted him at the other end. His brow creased in concern as he saw a feminine figure sitting next to Dave, practically draping herself around him. She seemed to be way older than him, and Rob broke into a jog. She was speaking to him, and as Rob watched she pointed out onto the field where the practice was happening and seemed to be asking him a question. As David gazed out at the players, Rob saw the hand holding his slip something golden onto his finger for a moment.
Dave was intensely studying Kai, wondering what he was meant to be seeing, when he felt something cold touch his finger, and was suddenly dizzy. He stumbled, and looking up, realised he was on the field. He felt… big. Raising his hands in front of him, he stared at the pale white flesh, and yelled in shock.
Kai felt dizzy, and suddenly found himself sitting down. He felt weird… weak. He brought his hand to his forehead, and as he looked at the deep brown fingers, he screamed.
Rob sprinted in panic as the girl rose fluidly from her position behind his screaming brother and walked away from him, in Rob’s direction. As she went past, he grabbed at her. “What the hell did you do to my brother?” he yelled as they both stumbled from his sudden stop. A flash of gold went from her hand to clang against the metal bleachers; he snatched it up and glanced at it. A ring, with symbols carved into it, was all he saw before a light exploded behind his eyes. He fell from the punch as he felt someone grab the ring out of his palm and heard running footsteps retreat behind him; after a moment’s disorientation, he got back up and proceeded to his brother. He knelt down. “What’s wrong, Dave?!” No response.
A shadow fell over them. Rob looked up to see a kid in his year level; Steve. “Perhaps I can explain.” he said. “But first, let’s go get your brother.”

Dave joined the remained of the football team as the practice began to wrap up. “Sorry about that guys. Must’ve hit my head too heard.” They gave him concerned looks, but didn’t say anything about it as they began to disperse. He stood for a moment, wondering what to do, when a hand tapped him on the shoulder. He turned to see a middle-aged woman. “Hey, honey” she said. “Ready to go?” Several nearby team members snickered, but Dave followed Kai’s mother dociley. Glancing up at the stand, he saw his brother give him a thumbs up. He returned it, and continued off to see his hopefully temporary new home.
