Caravan of Bodies: The Teleportation Dial

added by space_man2 3 years ago O Magic
Author note:
Timothy fiddles with the teleportation dial

There’s nothing to do after cleaning the kitchen. There’s a living room near the lobby but it has no television to watch on nor does the place have any WiFi. Well, what can Timothy do with the WiFi if he has no laptop nor phone to use it on. And so, he dozed off at the coolest part of the caravan - the lobby.

The lobby is a cramped yet inviting place. All sorts of things hang by the thread at the ceiling while the walls are littered with books and antiquated decorations. Even before he cleaned it yesterday, the place is spotless except for the boot dust the diesel boys brought. The place is well-taken care of.

One thing that sticks like a sore thumb in the room is the large dial by the door. It’s divided into 12 partitions that look like a color wheel. Each slice has a name of a place on it. The hand is currently pointing at the slice with the name USA. Timothy went over the dial and got more curious the closer he got. There’s a slice for Hanoi, Japan, Bogota, and many others. On the top was the largest one that states Magus City. Timothy slid the hand and placed it on Japan.

Suddenly, the whole caravan rocked. The glass bottles in the ceiling clinked like a mass of crazy xylophones. The books jumped on their shelves and some ceramic figures dropped on the floor and bounced. The whole world shook as Timothy jumped behind the counter and waited for it to stop. As soon as it came, the ground returned with a ring on Timothy’s ear.

“Japan,” an incorporeal voice said.

Timothy peeped out his head from the counter and walked by the door. The view outside the window meant that somehow or in some way, the whole caravan teleported to a river canal with cherry blossoms on each side. Timothy went outside. The air reeked of sweet and subtle undertones, one that brings a smile to Timothy. The smell was enough for him to forget that he magically teleported on the other side of the globe. He went outside and stuffed cherry blossoms in his pocket. He doesn’t know why he did it but it felt like the right way to do. Once he did so, he returned to the Caravan and returned from whence he came.

For the latter part of the morning, Timothy amused himself with the smells of the cherry blossom. He’d place a stool by the door and play with the dials as the scenery changed by the window. He tried every place available on the dial. The window changed into a golden sunset on the coast of the Philippines and an afternoon by the canals of Venice. He tried all but one, Magus City. For some reason, the dial won’t budge. He thought of pushing it further but got afraid that the dial would break. Then he’d be stranded in Germany or Nairobi. Timothy won’t let that happen so he returned to the USA and awaited Pickle’s arrival.
