This is what Jen wanted. She’s got a great role. She just needs to suck it up and deal with it. So Jen lets herself experience the indignities of being treated like a toddler on set. At least at home Gideon talks to her like an adult.
Jen is toddling around set one day, enjoying a bit of time outside of the playpen, when she sees Gideon talking to a man in a black suit. She walks over so that she can listen in on the conversation.
“She has a legal guardian,” Gideon says.
“But who is her legal guardian? Child actors are carefully regulated, and the studio needs to be in constant communication with whoever is taking care of her,” the man in the suit says. Gideon rubs the back of his neck.
“Uh…” He can’t think of anything to say. Jen quickly toddles over and tugs at Gideon’s pant leg.
“I wet,” she announces. Gideon looks down at her gratefully.
“Sorry, I’ll have to continue this conversation some other time,” he says, picking Jen up. “The star needs a new diaper.” The man in the suit crosses his arms, clearly displeased.
“Fine. I’ll come back tomorrow. But I expect a better answer than ‘she has a legal guardian’, okay?”
“Of course.” The man in the suit leaves. Gideon looks at Jen. “It was only a matter of time before someone started wondering who was in charge of you,” he says. Jen nods. Gideon carries her over to the changing table. Just as he sets her down, Jen remembers that she asked to be changed. She’s actually dry, but she lets her bladder loose. She’s already at the changing table, after all.
“We should figure that out,” Gideon says, laying Jen on her back and removing her diaper. Jen nods. “I should be able to get documentation for you, but in order to do that, we need to give you a legal guardian. Who do you want it to be?”
