Marina walked down the stairs, and sat at the table across from Thomas. Her dad was in the kitchen, frying some bacon. "Mornin' kiddo." He said with a smile as she sat down. "Did you sleep well?" "Yeah I slept alright, had a weird dream though" she said, standing up to fill herself a glass of water. She was suddenly feeling quite thirsty, and as she gulped down the water, it didn't get any better... the water needed something...
She went to the pantry in the corner of the kitchen, out of her family's sight. She looked through everything, until her eyes fixed on something. "Salt... maybe that's what it needs..?" She thought to herself. She took the salt shaker and started shaking it into her glass. She put the salt on the counter, filled the glass with water and took a swig. Her thirst was almost immediately relieved. She smiled in delight as she gulped down the rest of the saltwater. She refilled her glass, shook some more salt into it (making sure that her dad and brother didn't see her do it) and went back to the dining room.
As she entered the dining room, a strong scent overtook her. She smelled the air, and looked around to see where it was coming from. Whatever it was... it smelled heavenly, and made her mouth water. She looked on the table and soon found the source of the smell. Her dad hadn't tried bacon, he had fried fish! Fried herring by the looks of it. She eagerly sat down. "Would you like some fish sweetie?" Her father asked. She nodded. "Yes please!". He put a few herrings onto her plate, and she in a quick motion, took the herring by it's tail and lifted it up to her mouth. Opening her mouth, she stuck out her tongue to help reel the herring into her maw, and took the entire fish in it. Daniel and Thomas looked on in disbelief as Marina ate the herring whole. Marina looked at them after swallowing the first one. "What..? I'm hungry!" She says, giggling. They shake their heads. Marina shrugs and proceeds to do the same with the other herrings on her plate.
After a few seconds of silence, she stood up and promptly took her plate and glass to the sink. She then turned around and said, without hesitancy. "Hey, I think I'm gonna go swimming!". Before going upstairs, she spots a can of anchovies in the pantry, and swipes it, hiding it in her pocket. "Thanks for breakfast dad!" She says, giving him a peck on the cheek, before rushing upstairs to change. The two boys look at each other, stunned. "Women..." Daniel mutters to himself.
