The bunny balloon guy turns around and begins to walk back over toward you and Nate. You decide it would be best to stand your ground. He is changing faster than you both did, so maybe you wont have to worry about any violence, verbal or otherwise. Plus he has friends with him, more people to hand balloons to and preserve your own humanity.
The bunny balloon boy is handsome. His muscles fill out his tank top well. From this point of view, you are unable to see the little inflated tail behind him but its squeaking against the waistband of his shorts as he walks toward you both. His ears are getting longer too, but he isnt paying attention, his eyes are locked on yours.
"What did you do to my friend here?" a dark haired guy steps forward and accuses you pointing his finger at you. "Anybody that messed with one of us, messes with the whole team."
Oh great. A team of some kind.
Nate chimes in before you manage to get your mouth open "A team eh? OINK. Thats awesome. Did you get the group discount? Are you football, baseball, track and field? Who do I have the OINK pleasure of talking to today?"
Wow, smooth. Nate knows the way to a jocks heart. Flattery. If he doesnt hand out some balloons soon he is gonna be rooting around in the trash.
"Uh. Im Shane. We are on the water polo team over at East Junction Community College." The guy looks confused for a second, his anger turning to bravado as he sees a potential fan.
"Thats great. Here have a balloon." Nate flings the string out over Shanes wrist so quickly Shane doesnt have time to react. The bunny guy just stands there watching, dumb founded. You see the same look in their eyes that Nate had when he first met the balloon salesman. Something fishy was going on. Maybe this was part of the magic. People just sort of left them alone and let them hand out their balloons.
The little black and white skunk balloon bobbed innocently form Shanes wrist.
"Here. You all should take one. Heavens knows you want to fit in. You are a team after all." you say stepping forward and deftly tying a balloon to the remaining guys. A donkey for this one, he should enjoy that, and a monkey for this one.
Each balloon you hand out sends a feeling through you. You are unable to explain it, but you feel more human. Nate isnt even snorting anymore.
"And we are off! Thanks for stopping by!" You grab Nates arm and try to pull him away as the water polo team stands there looking at each other.
Nate resists your grip. "Hold on man. I wanna watch. Its stimulating ya know?" He grins in a lascivious way and meets your eyes. You remember well.
