Jake noticed their waitress already showing up at their table. “How you folks doing? I’m Sammy, I’ll be your waitress for today...” Sammy started handing out menus to Jake and Luna. Jake found opportunity and scanned Sammy putting her profile into the Chronivac. “Can I get you two something to drink?” She said in her thick southern accent. “I’ll have water please.” Luna told Sammy. “Same.” Jake said. “Right. I’ll be back momentarily.” She said walking off. Jake didn’t exactly know what to change Sammy into, until he looked over at her talking to another waitress giving her some sort of duck face. ‘That could be entertaining.’ Jake thought. He entered in Sammy will grow a duck bill, wings for arms, and tail feathers. He added her wings would be fully functional fingers so it wouldn’t cause any ruckus. Sammy was nice, so Jake could at least make her presentable. Jake hit enter and looked back at Luna who was browsing the menu. Luna caught Jake and looked up. “Checking out my horns now?” She said partially laughing. “No. At least not till you said something.” Jake smiled back.
Sammy came back holding a tray with two water cups on it. “Y’all need a minute, or are ya’ ready?” She asked as Jake and Luna looked up. Jake could already see Sammys nose flattening into her face, and her lips turning yellow. “I might need a moment.” Luna said still looking over the menu. “Ye... yeah... me too.” Jake said sort of stuttering. Both girls looked at him strangely but went back to their business. “Right then. Lemme’ know if *y’alAAAk*...” Sammy made a strange noise as her face pushed out into a duck bill cartoonishly fast. “*ahem* need anything.” She finished and walked toward another table. As she walked, Jake noticed a pointed tip of feathers coming from the back of her pants. She felt her new tail feathers as she walked.
“I’d say rude... but I know she can’t help it.” Luna said feeling sympathy for Sammy. “Yeah. She’s cute in a way though.” Jake commented as Luna turned back to him with an annoyed stare. “Hey! Don’t give me that! Your still my girl.” Jake said trying not to escalate the issue. Luna just smiled. “I’m messing with you.” She laughed. Jake shrugged it off and looked back at his menu. “She is the petting zoo kinda cute though.” Luna said quietly. A few minutes later, Sammy circled back to the table. “Y’all finally decide?” She asked nicely though her bill. As Sammy wrote down the orders, Jake noticed brown feathers coming from her sleeves. They spread all across her arm until her arms and hands became full wings. Jake was wondering how she was still holding her pen and notepad. “Got it! We’ll have that out in *awAAKk*... *hmm* minute.” Sammy said holding her bill closed with her wing and putting her pad and pen in her apron pocket. Jake didn’t expect the sudden outbursts of quacks would be apart of the change. It made him feel bad, but figured it was natural for her. He saw her talking to one of the chefs while giggling holding her bill. Jake was relieved that the changes took some positive affect on her.
After about half an hour, Jake and Luna have finished their breakfast. Jake found it a bit difficult to eat with his snout, but food went down a lot easier than usual. He figured he’d get used to it. “How was everything?” Sammy asked acting cute with her wing below her bill. “Very good. Thank you.” Luna said. “Here’s the bill for y’all. Thanks for stopping by and have a nice weekend.” Sammy said walking off wiggling her tail feathers. “I bet she’s everyone’s favorite. She was so nice.” Luna said. Jake nodded in agreement. He found it ironic that him as an alligator would get along so well with a duck. They’re usually main courses for gators. He thought it quite funny. “Thanks for coming Luna. I had fun.” Jake said smiling at Luna. “Thanks for bringing me.” Luna said leaving a five dollar bill for a tip. Jake grabbed the ticket and payed at the front counter, and the two left.
“Ya know, I think that Sammy girl is in band class with me.” Luna said. “Really? You guys don’t seem to close.” Jake commented. “We never really talked to each other. But maybe I should start. I think the four of us would get along well.” Jake wondered what Luna meant. “Four?” Jake asked. “The three of us and Leon. We ought to make a group of half animals in campus. We’d be more relatable that way.” Luna said putting her arm around Jakes shoulder. “Yeah. I guess that’d be cool.” Jake said. “I just wish there were more like us. Nobody treats us differently, but I still feel kinda like an outcast.” Luna said. Jake could see where she was coming from. He smiled thinking of the power he had just setting in his bag. “You never know Luna. Could be a lot more like us out there.” Jake said putting his arm around Luna’s back. “I’m sure they’ll be open to us at some point.”
