Amanda was at the end of her rope with her sons Todd and Will. The two boys were constantly arguing, taunting each other, and even getting in physical altercations. It was downright embarrassing. She’d hoped they would grow out of it as they got older, but for some reason they just kept on behaving the same way they always did. She really was getting sick of it.
Sure enough, once they arrived at the beach the boys immediately began arguing. Over their spot on the beach, over what to do once they got there, over just about anything they could think of it seemed. Amanda eventually just tuned them out, settling into a random spot on the beach and spreading out her blanket. There didn’t seem to be too many people here today, and Amanda smiled politely at the couple nearest to them. The boyfriend, a Hispanic guy a year or two younger than her own kids, smiled and waved back; his girlfriend, a brunette with curly hair, didn’t seem to have noticed her at all as she lay there with her eyes closed. Idly, Amanda noticed an old Polaroid camera lying next to the boyfriend. I wonder where he got thought? She thought.
Marco decided to take a picture of the arguing boys, who if anything who only escalated since their mom had stopped paying attention to them. If only they’d just shut up, he thought wearily. Picking up the camera, he aimed it at the arguing boys. Maybe the flash will distract them? He thought.
FLASH
Marco grinned as he watched the couple passionately make out. A Latina girl in an orange bikini stood with her back to him, oblivious to the world as she made out with her much taller African American boyfriend. Suddenly, he scooped her up in his arms, causing her to giggle and shriek as he carried out towards the surf, the blonde highlights in her hair flashing in the sunlight.
Glancing over at the calm looking blonde woman who’d waved at him earlier, Marco saw she’d put on sunglasses and headphones, and seemed to be asleep.
