It was the soft glow of the sunlight creeping in through Marissa’s window blinds that roused her up from her nap. At first, she assumed it was still sometime later in the morning, but then her jaw dropped when she checked her phone and saw that it was almost 7 o’clock p.m. that same night. The sun wasn’t rising, it was going down. And the realization of all her lost time made her instantly enraged.
“Son of a bastard!” She yelled, unable to believe that she just wasted most of her day off testing out her weird ass, crazy aunt’s homemade sleeping drug.
It still wasn’t that late, though, she though with a bit of hope returning. There was still time enough for her to get at least one thing done before she had to go back tomorrow and be a prisoner for her office for God knows how long. And she knew exactly where to spend it. She quickly got dressed and checked everything in her purse before she headed out the door. But before she did, she remembered the package of vials still lying on the floor.
At this point, it seemed almost absurd for her to think much of them. She knew what they were: a pharmaceutical prank from some estranged relative of hers. But maybe she could still do something with them, like sell them to her friends and bosses who were in need of a good rest. They always complained to her how stressed their lives were, so hey, maybe this is the kind of stuff they’d like. Or on the other hand, maybe the drug still had some side effects she wasn’t seeing yet, and having a sample on her was good in case she had to run to the hospital in an emergency. The worry that thought gave her especially made her stop to consider. In the end, she stooped down and threw a couple of them into her bag at random before stepping out the door, her mind swimming with all kinds of uncertain ideas.
None the less, she held onto her resolve to get something done that day, so she went...
