It was a relatively short walk from Ryan’s house to the Local Diner, much to Connor’s relief. He usually got quite hungry at this time in the evening.
“Have you been to the Local Diner before?” Ryan asked, holding the front door open for Connor.
“Kind of,” Connor responded as he walked inside, holding the next pair of doors open for Ryan. “On our first day here, my mom got takeout from here and brought it back home.”
“Well believe me when I say that the food here is much better when you get to eat it as soon as it comes out of the kitchen,” Ryan commented, guiding Connor to an empty table. A minute or two after they sat down, a waitress walked up to their table.
“Good evening! Welcome to the Local Diner!” the waitress greeted with a smile. “Can I start you gentlemen off with something to drink?”
“I’ll have a glass of water please,” Connor said.
“Same for me,” Ryan added.
“Alright, I’ll be right back with your drinks then,” the waitress said before walking off. A minute later, the waitress returned with their drinks. After setting them down on the table, she pulled out a small notepad out of her back pocket and grabbed a pen from behind her ear.
“And are you both ready to order?” the waitress asked.
“Yeah, I’m ready,” Ryan said. “I’ll have a burger with everything on it, cooked medium rare please.”
“I guess I’ll have the same,” Connor said. “No tomatoes on mine though.”
The waitress wrote both orders down. “Alright then, I’ll be back with your food in a bit.”
As the waitress walked off into the kitchen, Ryan turned his attention to Connor.
“Service here is pretty fast, even on days when they’re packed,” he said. “They aren’t too busy right now, so we should be getting our orders in no time at all.”
“Well that’s good to know,” Connor responded. “I’m already pretty damn hungry. I guess all that daydreaming really worked up an appetite.”
“Daydreaming you say?” Ryan asked, chuckling. “Mind if I ask what about?”
“Mostly just our date and the potential aftermath,” Connor confessed, blushing slightly. “I mean, this is my first date, let alone my first date with a guy. With the possibility of us having sex so I can become a Were later tonight, I couldn’t help but imagine what it will all be like.”
Ryan couldn’t help but crack a smile. Connor’s response was clearly genuine, and there was something about the teen’s enthusiasm towards all of this that made him even more attractive in Ryan’s eyes.
“Well, if the rest of the world is just as accepting as you are, maybe this whole plan to reveal Weres won’t be so bad,” Ryan said. “Though I won’t lie, I do have my concerns.”
“I don’t know much about Weres and their culture, but from what I’ve heard, I can understand why many people are reacting in a negative way,” Connor said. “The secret that Weres exist sounds like it’s been in place for a long time.”
“It’s been in place for centuries,” Ryan confirmed. “Thousands of Weres before us have lived and died with the secret, and suddenly there’s a big discussion about breaking it. A lot of people are against the idea because they think that the Normals will take up arms and go on a mass-genocide of Weres like they did hundreds of years ago.”
“But the world has changed so much since those times,” Connor stated. “A lot of people love the idea of werewolves and being able to change into an animal whenever they want. Hell, I’m one of them! Of course, I’m more of a cat guy myself…” This comment earned a laugh and an eye roll from Ryan.
“Okay, with that comment, I’m 110% certain that you’re trying to get in my pants,” Ryan laughed, causing Connor’s face to turn a bright shade of red.
