Jess wakes up to the sound of rips. She opens her eyes. She’s on a changing table, her clothes removed for ease of changing. And the noise she heard was her mom removing her filthy diaper. Jess remains still and silent, hoping mom hasn’t realized she’s awake yet.
“Honestly, Jess, I can’t believe this,” mom mutters to herself. She wipes Jess down roughly and tapes a fresh diaper on. This one is much thicker than the first; presumably it’s for overnight accidents. Jess closes her eyes again. Mom takes her off the changing table and carries her over to a crib, where she is set down.
Jess waits until she hears the door close. She opens her eyes and gets to her feet unsteadily. The thickness of the new diaper is making her even clumsier. She looks around. It’s the nursery that mom never bothered to take down. She’s at her mom’s house. She’s still incredibly tired. Her stomach rumbles. She’s also apparently very hungry.
She knows where she is. Now, she needs to decide what to do.
