Jess wakes up as the car comes to a stop outside mom’s house. Mom looks over at her.
“Good, you’re up,” she says coldly. “Now I don’t have to carry you inside.” Mom gets out, thanks the relative that drove them, then removes Jess from the car seat and sets her on the ground. “Come on.” Mom sets off for the house. Jess follows, waddling due to the load in her diaper. The mess smells and smears, causing tears to prick the corners of Jess’s eyes.
Once inside, mom finally picks Jess up. She carries Jess to the nursery that she never took down, and quickly and efficiently changes her into a clean, thicker diaper.
“You don’t need this,” mom says, removing Jess’s clothes. She then brings Jess to the living room, where a playpen has been set up, and puts Jess, wearing only a diaper, inside. “Behave. If you do, maybe I won’t make you spend the whole evening in the playpen.”
Mom leaves the room. Jess sighs. Obviously, she can’t stay in the playpen and play with blocks quietly like her mom wants. She’s an adult.
