As James attempted to come to teems with his new rabbit form and convince himself this was all just a silly children's story and not as terrifyingly real as it felt, the Princess began to giggle.
"You know, you really do make an awfully cute bunny" Penelope told James, who was unable to respond in any meaningful way "perhaps I should keep you like that as my new pet?"
The words hit James likeba ton of bricks. He could only hope she was joking. But it quickly became clear she wasn't.
"You know, it's only me and that horrible witch who know you aren't supposed to be a rabbit. I doubt we will see her again and I'm very good at keeping secrets"
James could hardly believe what he was hearing but his angry protests came out as pathetic clicking sounds that were impossible to translate as annoyance.
"Won't that be lovely for you, being a royal pet. You will live the most luxurious life a rabbit could ever dream of" Penelope picked James up and began to stroke his fur "Though I don't think James is a very suitable name for a bunny. I think I shall rename you Nibbles"
"And so" the narrator giggled wirh pleasure at the latest cruel twist to their tale "The princess took Nibbles to his new home at the castle. However, when they arrived there..."
