Merlin stroked his beard as he watched the news, "Well... it's not every magical realm in existence that fused with Earth... otherwise there would be nothing of Earth left. And every living thing on Earth would've been crushed to death from the sheer number of new arrivals.
There are hundreds of magical realms, many the sizes of entire universes, not tiny little pocket realities the size of a small country or island. And MOST are the size of planets! And most DIDN'T have the kitsune's problem of being cursed to be sterile, that was more an action by their rivals to prevent any more kitsune living long enough to become ninetails. Others have populations in the BILLIONS! ... Unicorn. Harpies. Tanuki. Kappi. Centaurs. Elves. Dwarves. Gnomes. Fairies. Goblins. The list goes on and on and on AND ON! Many of them have NOT been sitting on their laurels stuck in a stasis where what was flashy 1000 years ago is just gimmicky against long range artillery fire and guided missiles. The lycans meanwhile knew their lack of progress was a WEAKNESS. These aren't middle ages rubes against modern armies. Why do you think I have a 'protection from bullets' spell cast myself and a secondary back-up of the same enchantment on my robes and a 'small fast kinetic force' deflection amulet invisible somewhere on my person? ... Oh no..."
The news switched to Tokyo... various Yakuza and Nekomata violently shooting it out in the streets... it seemed that their territories now overlapped... These were not furry cat girls mindlessly running at men with guns with their claws drawn. They knew what body armor was, they knew were snipers were, they knew what machine guns were, and knew perfectly well how to magically ENHANCE said weapons as wizards had enhanced swords and shields centuries ago. Bullets that would magically (literally) turn in mid-air to hit their targets, others that would phase through walls. Both criminal empires enraged at their infrastructure turned into a mishmash from another reality. The Nekomata naturally extended an invitation for any operations in Tokyo to 'join the family.' (The quiet invasive attitude adjustment that would come with the transformation kept under wraps for obvious reasons.)
The mansion of the residing queen (as is the name for a female cat that has given birth) of the most powerful Nekomata family had popped on top of a major underground shopping center (thankfully while it had been closed) but tourists, police, investigators, and all the rest ended up 'good luck kitty' statues or maids or guard-cats... with the insistence they were now her legal indepted property and legally indepted servants under Nekomata law.
On the bright side, nobody really seemed to notice the Nekomimi and Bakeneko walking on the street ... but they did notice the huge towers in a completely different architectural style that now reached up to the sky and dug several layers into the earth. Several families of humans and nekos angrily demanding of the other "GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!" random homes of humans and nekos having been obliterated out existence and replaced with one or the others. And since guns were not exactly easy to come across in Japan for the average citizen, the human house owners fought with kitchen knives against the neko's claws in places where things came to blows.
Any wizards who had been hoping for a neat clean extermination of any mythics who now infested Earth would find it not such a one-sided conflict.
