You scence that it was trouble so you use your ultimate attack, the 'rising dragon, fall thunder' technique. The staff absorbs the energy. With that, you fall to your knees. Your mentor had said that it was dangerous to use it unless absolutely necessary because it could cause terrible harm to the user and also if it is deflected, you would be open to attack.
