As soon as he left, Fifi sat down in the chair. She looked at the screen, and the settings. It had her name, and noted she'd been changed to a sixteen year old human, with average human knowledge, but no reality change. She looked down at her newly human hands, and put them on the keyboard.
She couldn't believe how she felt...it was like she'd been looking through a small hole, and now she could see everything.
She started into the reality alteration settings, looking at her options quickly before Jeff returned. She made a change, adding computer skills to her profile, and hit apply. Able to better understand what to do, she quickly changed the password on the computer to something Jeff wouldn't know.
Working quickly, knowing Jeff would be back in a second, she had a look at the settings for the animal to human program. The program had her profile loaded up still. But where was Jeff's profile. She found it in the upper corner, under user.
It seemed the profiles for subjects and users were stored together. Using search and replace, she was able to swap her details for Jeff's and vice versa. Then she restarted the Chronivac interface program, clearing the active memory. When she relaunched, the user tab in the upper corner had her name. Running the saved animal to human preset, it reported that Jeff had been turned into a 16 year old human male of average intelligence.
She could hear Jeff coming up the stairs. She flipped a setting and left it at a screen that looked a lot like where she'd left it. A dialog box that offered to save settings. She turned in the chair just before he entered.
"Here you are, Fifi..." He said, offering her the water.
"Thank you, Jeff," she said, taking a sip. "But...I'm human...I'd rather you call me Felicity....it sounds more like a human name."
"But, you aren't human, Fifi....at least not forever...this is just for fun, and you'll be back to normal soon."
She looked at him. "Oh, I am normal, Jeff. I feel wonderful...But...I think I'm going to stay like this."
"I don't think that's a good idea...I mean...don't you remember how great things were before," he said, going for the computer.
"Well, you are my best friend, Jeff...nothing is going to change that..." She said.
He reached around her and hit the Save button...not knowing he was saving a different set of settings than before. "I'm sorry, Fifi...but..."
The room began to change, the sheets changing color, the posters on the wall morphing. The computer stayed mostly the same, except for some stickers on it. Jeff's dirty laundry vanished from the hamper.
"What just happened?" Jeff said.
"Oh....you just told it to refresh reality," Felicity told him. "You just erased my ever being a dog, as far as anyone but you and I are concerned."
She got up to look around, and he tried to fix the issue, but kept being prompted for a password. "What's wrong with this thing?"
"Let me try," she said, typing in a password. The Animal to Human program came back up.
