“So where do we want to go?” inquired Constance as she licked her new lion like lips. “We either head upstate longer journey but better options in the long run. Head to Jersey, shorter distance and decent hunting grounds or finally head to central park shortest distance but worse hunting ground and likely full of armed humans.”
“Basically.” Confirmed Barbara her mind was still her mind however she still had her intelligence but now it had more basic hunter’s edge and animal instincts. “Either way we could pick up another two or three members for our pride.”
Aaron wasn’t going to argue with that, somehow, he knew that a pride was made out of around six lioness and two male lions along with their offspring. So adding more to their pride was something that needed to happen.
“I say we head up state.” Added Constance “My friends in Jersey live in an apartment building, not the best for a den while if you are thinking of the family members, I know they live in a cabin by a lake.”
“I am.” Confirmed Barbara “It’s my cousin, she lives in our late grandparents’ cabin by a lake in the woods. Great hunting ground.”
“I still don’t like the idea of going all the way up there.” Said Lindsay “However it is the best of our pride and so lets do it.”
“Alright.” said Aaron as he confirmed the decision made by everyone else. They where animals but they where not stupid, they filled a few backpacks with bottles of water and food all of it meat. They didn’t care anymore about the nonmeat food.
They left the apartment and came face to face with a wolf like creature, she let out a growl only to get a load group roar from the four lions that sent it running away. They left the same way that Barbara and Constance had entered by jumping from the rooftop into a nearby building floor. Once in the other building they headed down to the street and headed North.
They came across more signs of pure chaos, burning buildings and cars, gunfire in the distance and the sound of screams and animal calls as more and more people where transformed. They moved down a street which had been firebombed by the military walking past the burnt remains of some elephant humans.
“Nice.” Said Lindsay as she used her claws to cut away some of the burnt flesh while the others began to eat it raw before following Lindsay’s example and cutting some away and putting it into the bags. The roar of jets caused all of them to duck into a side street as more military jets flew by. The jets just kept going dropping bombs deeper into the city, likely areas that was already loss to them. They kept going following the highway until they reached a small trainyard. The area was full of panicking humans and armed humans however there was also a lot of trains all of whom heading out of the city.
“Are you thinking what I am thinking?” said Constance as they watched from a small patch of trees as a train prepared to leave. They the train cars where full of people with some armed guards in each carpartment but it looked like the last train car was full of crates.
“We could make it upstate in record time.” Said Aaron
“Or be found, there are a lot of humans and a lot of guns.” Stated Lindsay
“To get to my cousin’s is a five-day journey on foot, this train is going to within 10 miles of it.” Said Barbara “I say we risk it.”
“Alright.” said Aaron as they began to leave the cover of the woods and headed toward the train which was already beginning to pull out. There was tense moments as they worried that they would be spotted but they weren’t and just as the train was picking up speed, Barbara jumped on the end of the train and threw open the back door before helping the rest of her pride into the train car and closing it again.
“And away we go.” Said Constance with a toothy smile as the train headed out of the city as fast as possible.
