The Predecessor

added by Rose 3 years ago O

“Here it is!” October said to herself, heaving a large, dusty book onto her desk. She opened it and began flipping through the pages. One after the other, she skimmed them each, looking for the spell she needed. She looked through what seemed like an infinite number of pages before finally, she found it.

“The Predecessor, got it!” She said to herself, she read the first line to herself, “This spells will allow a magic user to gain the power of a former witch or wizard. As long as they are deceased and in that magic users bloodline,” she smiled to herself, “it lasts as long as I need it to, this is perfect. I can fix my parents and maybe I can make myself more powerful. But it’s going to be a lot of preparation, first, I’ll need a drop of my Great Grandmother’s blood.”

October grabbed a bookmark and placed it in the book. She grabbed a coat and boots and made her way downstairs. She slowed down, being a little more quiet as she got to the bottom of the stairs. She looked around, looking for her Father or Mother, she didn’t see either of them, nor did she sense their presence. She made her way across the room and to the front door. She quietly opened it and stepped outside. It was cold. She closed the door, making sure not to make any noise.

She walked all the way down town until she came across a small store, it had a strange sign, very abnormal. October knew exactly what she was doing though, she walked in. Unsurprisingly, the shopkeeper was awake inside, sitting at the counter reading a magazine. The magazine covered their face, the magazine was labelled ‘Mysterious Objects Weekly’.

“Uh... hello?” October said,
The shopkeeper suddenly, flipped the magazine away from their face. Revealed was a fairly youthful looking man. He had long, slicked back hair, “there something you want, miss?” He asked. His voice had a New York accent, it had a little croak to it,
“Yes. I heard you sell blood,”
“Who told y’that?” He asked, raising an eyebrow, he began to smile, showing off his teeth more. October saw that some of them were rather sharp looking, then it clicked with her,
“My father, Sorin Tyra, he was a friend of yours,”
“Sorin!” The man said, “yes! October, I haven’t seen ya since you were a little girl, of course.” He smiled,
“You’re a vampire,” October stated,
“You should know it’s not a good idea to ask a man if he’s a vampire,”
“I didn’t ask, I worked it out,”
This made him smirk, “clever girl. Well, yeah, I do collect blood. Are y’looking for a flavour or a person... or both?”
“A person... my great grandmother,”
“Ah...” the vampire said, he broke eye contact for a moment, “you might be in luck, but I don’t know how much is left,”

He stood up and made his way into the room in the back of the store, he stopped and turned around, “y’not comin?” He asked, “I don’t bite,”
“Odd for a vampire,” October said slightly defensively,
“Haha, yeah I know that’s not usually how it works. I keep blood in the back for a reason, but I try to stay off it nowadays,”

October shook off her bad feelings and trusted him, he was her fathers oldest friend (both in age and friendship). She made her way into the back room and looked around. The light above them was dim, but it wasn’t hard to see. Surrounded by boxes upon boxes of vials filled with mostly red liquid, but some were different shades. She saw a few yellow ones, two blue ones and a single vial of silver blood, it was encased in glass, must’ve been rare.

“Here,” the vampire said, “should be this one,” he said, lifting up a selection of vials, he pulled one out, it had the label on it,

‘Tyra,’

“Now, I don’t quite know which one of these is your grandmother, and which one is your great grandmother, I’m hoping your magic skill will be able to distinguish which is which.

October looked at the two vials very carefully, intently trying to figure out which one is the correct vial. She finally made up her mind and picked one. She looked at it, she was almost certain it was the right one. Almost.
“How much for the vial?” October asked,
“Oh... it’s quite an expensive one, but since you are Sorin’s daughter, I can’t let you pay for it. It’s your bloodline, keep it, if you really want to, you can return it, but as far as you’re concerned, it’s all yours,” he smiled,
October thanks the vampire once more, then asked, “I’m sorry for asking, but what is your name. My father just have mentioned it at some point but I have forgotten it,”
“Haha, I doubt he has, he always called me Pie, for reasons that I don’t even understand, but my real name; it’s Ghan,”
“Thank you, Ghan, this will really help me, and I appreciate your help,”
“Don’t worry about it October, I’m always here if you need blood or just a helping hand,”
October made her way out of the store, waving her hand a few times as she walked down the street away from the view of Ghan. She then waved her hand again, this time, a red smoke appeared in the air as she walked. She took the vial and placed it into the smoke, then waved her hand again. And like that, she had stored it deep into her magical pocket.

She made her way back home, as she did, she pulled out a notebook and flipped it over. She crossed out, ‘collect blood.’
