Kim was playing in the front yard when her older sister Harriet came home from practice. "Harriet will you play with me?" She asked the blonde hopefully.
Harriet smiled down at her kid sister. She loved how the eight year old looked up to her, but Kim was at that age where she wanted her sister to spend all the time she could with her. That just wasn't possible with school, cheerleading, dating, and studying. "Sorry kiddo, I'm beat after practice, and I have to get some schoolwork done before dinner."
"Oh." Kim looked down and sighed. Her big sister never had any time for her. It sucked being the littlest in the family. Mommy was always telling her what to do, and nobody ever wanted to play.
"I promise I'll play with you later, okay " Harriet said hoping to restore Kim's spirits.
"Okay, but remember you promised." Kim said in her best commanding tone. Harriet chuckled and turned to enter the house. As Harriet walked away, Kim noticed something fall out of her bag and onto the grass. Before she could tell her sister Harriet closed the door behind her, leaving Kim alone outside.
Kim went over and picked the thing up. "What is this?" She wondered aloud. It looked like the tv remote, but shaped a bit differently, and had different buttons. Kimmi noticed one that said 'me' and set it to that, wondering what it did.
"What are you doing out here by yourself?" An older voice called. Kim looked up to see it was Mrs. Reed, the old woman from down the street. She was in her 70s, with snow white hair, and a thin frail body. "How could your mother or sister just leave you out here alone? Don't they know how dangerous that is? Come here young lady. I'm going to take you to your mother and give her a piece of my mind."
Kim panicked. She didn't want to get in trouble. Her mommy had told her she'd be fine if she stayed on her lawn. Hoping to somehow stop Mrs. Reed, Kim pointed the remote at her and pressed the button. She watched as Mrs. Reed began to look better. She looked more healthy as her hair returned to it's deep black color. She looked to be closer to mommy's age. Then she turned around and started walking towards Kimmi. With each step she looked smaller. Soon she looked more like one of Harriet's friends. She got shorter, smaller, and her clothes changed as she became a little girl like Kim.
"Hey Kim, what do you want to play?" The girl asked Kim. The girl smiled revealing she was missing one of her front teeth.
"Mrs. Reed?" Kim asked confused.
The girl looked around for a moment. "Where?" She asked. "I don't see my mommy anywhere. Oh, you want to pretend to be grown ups. Okay, I'm Mrs. Gretchen Reed. How do you do ma'am." Gretchen giggled.
