Ben moved cautiously along the catwalk. The boards underneath his feet supported his weight, but a fall from this height may be fatal, it would at least break his bones. He ignored the fear in his chest and moved forward in to the club.
From backstage a curtain hung down separating the working behind the stage from the rest of the club. Lights were attached to poles with cords wrapped around and snaking in all directions, eventually following a wall to the DJs booth where the DJ could orchestrate his light show. Several smoke machines were setup as well pointing down to the dance floor and stage below.
Maybe that was it. Something in the smoke. But the bouncers hadnt changed, and Ben stopped changing when he left. It could be the smoke and the employees at the club had some kind of protection? He would have to watch tonight and see. He knew the way out if things got er.. hairy for him? He smiled at the stupid joke as it passed through his mind.
He noticed a large net above the dance floor with several hundred balloons of all shape and size suspended in it. He had seen this before, at the end of night all the balloons would shower down and everybody has a great time popping them or handing them to their dates etc etc. Stupid club gimmicks.
Voices below him attract his attention. Two men on the stage are discussing the evenings event. Ben moves to a better vantage spot and eavesdrops on their dialog.
"Tonight is something new. The balloons are special."
